No one else did in this series, other than the outpost commander.Shouldn’t Kirk have a different symbol for his badge?
He is wearing one in the season 2 filming photos, but we have no context as to why.

That’s true. It’s a shame they didn’t keep that tradition going. No one else did in this series, other than the outpost commander.

Future Pike explicitly says that any attempt to change his fate results in Spock's death or incapacitation, and that has dire consequences for the timeline.Am I missing something? Why doesn't Pike just resign Starfleet in protest over Una's arrest? It literally solves all his problems.
I do remember that. It is what it is, but personally the line felt hamfisted to explain the complete lack of connection between the Romulan war bad future and the specific delta radiation accident (Pike could still avert the accident and just have Kirk command the Enterprise and everything should be fine, etc.)Future Pike explicitly says that any attempt to change his fate results in Spock's death or incapacitation, and that has dire consequences for the timeline.

By not being in Starfleet, the delta radiation accident can't happen.
By not being in Starfleet, Kirk will be in command of the Enterprise and the Romulan war won't happen.
By not being in Starfleet, Pike is making the strongest protest he can possibly make against Una's treatment.

I kind of like seeing them interact, but I also cringe a bit at how small and puny Kirk seems next to Anton Mount's very... solid... Pike.Do love the Pike/Kirk relationship and I would love to see that moving forward on the show
So unless Kirk is also commanding the Farragut in season 2, that photo they gave us months ago was from this episode
I said the same thingShould have had James Frain play the Romulan commander. Immersion ruined.
that was a joke
Lieutenants can command ships in real life. Usually small ones.Kirk commanding the Farragut was 6-7 years into an alternate future. In the SNW present, he's probably only a lieutenant, right?
He wouldn't have to see millions of possible timelines. Just seeing a couple where things end badly would be enough to keep him from risking Spock or anyone else's lives just to save himself. They turned Pike into Avengers Dr. Strange, seeing a million possible timelines with his magical powers.
I hope that's the case. It would really feel like a distraction to have him be always or even just frequently present - at least this early in the show's life. Maybe after 5 or 6 seasons...Maybe he’s not showing up in season 2 after all and this is his only appearance. Wouldn’t be the first time they tricked us.
Bring him back when they do Star Trek Phase II.I hope that's the case. It would really feel like a distraction to have him be always or even just frequently present - at least this early in the show's life. Maybe after 5 or 6 seasons...
