No one else did in this series, other than the outpost commander.

He is wearing one in the season 2 filming photos, but we have no context as to why.
That’s true. It’s a shame they didn’t keep that tradition going.

So unless Kirk is also commanding the Farragut in season 2, that photo they gave us months ago was from this episode

Am I missing something? Why doesn't Pike just resign Starfleet in protest over Una's arrest? It literally solves all his problems.

By not being in Starfleet, the delta radiation accident can't happen.
By not being in Starfleet, Kirk will be in command of the Enterprise and the Romulan war won't happen.
By not being in Starfleet, Pike is making the strongest protest he can possibly make against Una's treatment.

Future Pike explicitly says that any attempt to change his fate results in Spock's death or incapacitation, and that has dire consequences for the timeline.

I do remember that. It is what it is, but personally the line felt hamfisted to explain the complete lack of connection between the Romulan war bad future and the specific delta radiation accident (Pike could still avert the accident and just have Kirk command the Enterprise and everything should be fine, etc.)

They turned Pike into Avengers Dr. Strange, seeing a million possible timelines with his magical powers.

Man, that was pretty good!

I don't get real "Captain Kirk" vibes from the actor, but that's fine. I feel like another straight-on rehash of the Shatner/Pine James Kirk would be tiresome.

Do love the Pike/Kirk relationship and I would love to see that moving forward on the show, in a way that isn't as predictable as Kirk becoming the Enterprise XO while Una is in the clink.

I think the most important thing this episode does is give us a solid emotional foundation for Spock's behavior in The Menagerie. His behavior there always seemed a bit extreme since we didn't know anything about his relationship with Pike. Given everything that's happened in this first season of SNW, and particularly in this episode, his future behavior now seems perfectly sensible.

I find it funny that Pike gives his reason: not changing the timeline and killing innocents.

Everyone wants him to tinker with time anyway.

Future Pike already explained this. No matter what they do, it goes shitty. Maybe if Pike resigns it has some unforeseen negative consequences on Spock.

He wouldn't have to see millions of possible timelines. Just seeing a couple where things end badly would be enough to keep him from risking Spock or anyone else's lives just to save himself.

Maybe he’s not showing up in season 2 after all and this is his only appearance. Wouldn’t be the first time they tricked us.
