Not really. You've said these people are being hammered in and need justification. They don't. Trans is part of humanity. So it gets to be present. No justification required.

Agreed, and that's only one thing I have always like about Star Trek.

Strange New Worlds is no different in this regard.

What story purpose do trans people serve in reality? Because I don't see one, they just exist. Since Star Trek is supposed to reflect humanity in all it's diversity, trans people should be included. Trek doesn't need a story reason to include straight people or cisgender people or any other kind of people. Making an exception for trans people is just an attempt to justify exclusion for the sake of conforming to unrealistic worldviews.

Dr. Aspen was great until the (obvious) reveal. After that she was annoying OTT.

Pike's plot was holding my interest but then they moved to focus to Spock and Peck plays him so dry and one note, I just don't find him interesting. He is the only one of the recast characters who makes me feel like I'm watching a fan film. It feels like he's imitating and this version of Spock doesn't land with me. Nimoy played layers. Even early, younger Spock. This is "I just failed Kholinar" Spock.

Chapel is adorable. One of my favorite characters on the show. I never thought those words would ever come out of my brain.

The mutiny thing was too easy and jokey. The takeover was thrilling and great but the back half of the episode didn't do it justice.

First half was great, second not so much. A disappointment for me.

Saved me some typing.

Using your logic then they should get rid of all character's that aren't the ones listed in the opening credits. No background extras, no side characters.
