They were no more in your face than any straight/cis people in the entire franchise.

Given that your objection seems to be over the mere inclusion of gay and trans characters because they're gay and trans I'd say it's valid description. If that's not your intention then you're doing a terrible job of explaining yourself.
It was stupid because TOS Sulu had never been gay. Even George Takei was against nuSulu being gay! Not that there is anything wrong with a gay character, but it could have been someone else!

I'm not a writer ... let Stamets and Culber take a bigger part, they have barely been visible in the last two seasons! Especially Culber, he feels like a rare guest star instead of a regular.
Adira and Tal, on the other hand ... I don't know why they were there to begin with. Representation, I guess ... which is exactly my complaint. They were not there because the story demanded it, they were just there to make a statement!

Claiming that LGBTQ people are being "shoved in your face" is probably the most common catchphrases of the "I'm not a bigot but..." crowd. It's just another whine from people demanding they be sheltered from having to know other people exist.
I'm as white and cis as a Warrant music video and I'm happy Adira and Tal give representation to people who want to know they exist in the future. Besides, one's a Trill and the other's now a Soong-type android.
