Kirk never said he met Pike "once". He only mentioned that single instance when Mendez asked if he had met Pike.

They could have met a dozen times, but the time Kirk mentioned could have just been the last time he met Pike.

I hate all this trying to find all this leeway to mess with canon. He said that he met him when he became fleet captain. Just keep it as that.

I just checked the episode. Kirk said when asked if he ever met Chris Pike. Kirks answer "We met when he was promoted to Fleet Captain. I took over the Enterpise from him. Spock served with him for several years." So that bit of dialogue makes it clear they met by the time Pike was promoted not before . So if they meet earlier it breaks canon. This show though I consider separate from TOS anyway

"We met..." doesn't mean it was the first time, or that Kirk wasn't being vague anyway.

You ever hear the term "so, we meet again"?

Pike could be promoted to "fleet captain" tomorrow- it's a rank of indeterminate meaning.

SO, all They have to do to appease the Canonist's is make sure that at some point in the second season episode Kirk appears in, Admiral April offers Pike a promotion to Fleet Captain.

Which Pike ends up refusing at that point, and all is well.

Then later on down the road, when he does accept the promotion, Kirk will meet him again and take over as the Captain of the Enterprise.

    Easy-peasy

I think that the X-Files had an episode with this title.

Haven't seen the episode in awhile, but wasn't that a question asked during the hearing?

Me too. I understand having Spock there and MAYBE Uhura, but the Chapel I'm seeing now is nothing like the Chapel I saw on TOS. The producers could have given that character a different name.

Michael Dorn should play a Gorn.

So...do Gorn have individual names, or simply a series of gurgles and snorts for self-identification?

Ironically, their favorite beverage is Gatorade, an Earth drink.

Many bands have used it for a song title as well, including Kamelot & Lamb Of God. I'm sure some are truer to the concept than others.

Confession Time: I was never a fan of the Gorn in "Arena". I thought he looked, acted, and sounded ridiculous. The scene when Kirk is fighting the Gorn is what's shown whenever someone in a movie is watching Star Trek. The first time I saw this instance was in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, then I saw it happen a few years later in Coneheads, and I've seen it in a few other spots that aren't coming to mind. But Kirk fighting the Gorn comes across to me as what someone who has no idea about Star Trek is about thinks it is.

The story of the episode itself is fine, but the Gorn did it no favors. So I'm hoping "Memento Mori" was makes them seem less silly rather than celebrating how silly they were.

It wasn't a fair fight. Clearly the Metrons were on Kirk's side because the "Arena" had a bias toward Earth projectile weapons. And it had an Earth normal gravity pull. The Gorn Captain's muscles weren't adapted to this, judging by his clumsy movements.

limited budgets made for cheap special effects in those days. Plus state of the art special effects then are laughable now. Doesn't bother me that the old Gorn looked like a cheap halloween costume. It's not really all that different from the Creature From the Black Lagoon, just a guy in a rubber suit.
