Not what I was talking about, like AT ALL, but okay.

Ah, but no one can take away our own estimation of Star Trek's entertainment and cultural value. No one.

Me, I adore the "Arena" Gorn. Sure he looks and acts ridiculous. But, damn those performances were sincere.

Confession Time: I was never a fan of the Gorn in "Arena". I thought he looked, acted, and sounded ridiculous. The scene when Kirk is fighting the Gorn is what's shown whenever someone in a movie is watching Star Trek. The first time I saw this instance was in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, then I saw it happen a few years later in Coneheads, and I've seen it in a few other spots that aren't coming to mind. But Kirk fighting the Gorn comes across to me as what someone who has no idea about Star Trek is about thinks it is.

The story of the episode itself is fine, but the Gorn did it no favors. So I'm hoping "Memento Mori" was makes them seem less silly rather than celebrating how silly they were.

What did you think about the Gorn from In A Mirror Darkly part II? To me, that one was kewler, but as blatantly CGI as the Defiant. Not terrible, but not great either.

Of course the Gorn we saw on LD were more comedic as they should be on that show.

Haven't seen the episode in awhile, but wasn't that a question asked during the hearing?
MENDEZ: You ever met Chris Pike?
KIRK: When he was promoted to Fleet Captain.
MENDEZ: About your age. Big, handsome man, vital, active.
KIRK: I took over the Enterprise from him. Spock served with him for several years.
SPOCK: Eleven years, four months, five days.
Me too. I understand having Spock there and MAYBE Uhura, but the Chapel I'm seeing now is nothing like the Chapel I saw on TOS. The producers could have given that character a different name.
Genuine question: How much did we know about Chapel from TOS?

A less silly Gorn. Is that even possible?

Extra credit to get that reference.

It wasn't a fair fight. Clearly the Metrons were on Kirk's side because the "Arena" had a bias toward Earth projectile weapons. And it had an Earth normal gravity pull. The Gorn Captain's muscles weren't adapted to this, judging by his clumsy movements.

What did you think about the Gorn from In A Mirror Darkly part II?

The correct answer is... they are the same. :D

I guess that's one of the Gorn we'll see

I am also not a fan of TOS Gorn. He did look ridiculous. ENT Gorn wasn’t great either but still an improvement. If they show them on SNW , hopefully it will be much better than those.

The script for “Arena” episode turned out too similar to a short story by scifi writer Fredrick Brown. So they bought the story from him and gave him story credit for the episode. I haven’t read that short story but I suspect there are no Gorn in it.

I think they're referring to this exchange
MENDEZ: Present your evidence. Screen on.
SPOCK: This is thirteen years ago. The Enterprise and its commander, Captain Christopher Pike.
SPOCK [on screen]: Definitely something out there, Captain, headed this way.
KIRK: Screen off. Chris, was that really you on the screen? (flash) That's impossible. Mister Spock, no vessel makes record tapes in that detail, that perfect. What were we watching?
SPOCK: I cannot tell you at this time, sir.
