You're over-simplifying it. I know plenty of people who were heartbroken when the Enterprise was destroyed in ST3, myself included. In-universe characters also treat it as much more than a mode of transportation. I don't know where the dividing line between "character" and "critical inanimate object" lies - if there is such a thing - but plenty of professional writers have considered the Enterprise - and similar constructs in other stories/universes to be characters from a story-telling perspective. This stands out as more obvious in written form (think of Star Trek novels) than on television, but it's no less true.

That it has an emotional resonance with some viewers doesn't make it more than a setting. As others have very much illustrated that emotional attachment has formed but doesn't change how the place works. I was sad when my old school was changed in to a business but that doesn't change what the school was.

TVLINE guy on youtube states he has seen 5 episodes and gives it a B+

He shows a few extra not seen scenes one of Uhura laffing and gives brief descriptions of the 5 episodes.

The guy has a long thin head which looks odd. maybe he is using fish eye lens or cheap optics.

I've seen the first two episodes. It is extravagantly wonderful, better than I hoped. It's everything it ought to be.

And some folks are gonna hate it. C'est la Guerre. More later.

    >looks around at stacks of model ship boxes< :)

I actually owe the pandemic for waking me up, reintroducing me to something I had removed from my life and not recognized the hole their absence had left. Getting back into the hobby has started a healing I didn't know I needed....

The reviews sound like the reviews to a proper Star Trek show.

It's what I had hoped for many, many years ago when DIS was announced. Alas, I finally might get from my Trek what I want.

One thing I absolutely noticed in the Trekcore review:
They were taking about "bigger stakes" like "the ship being in danger" and "smaller stakes" in other plots.
At NO POINT have I seen "planets, solar systems & the entire multiverse threatened by fascist bad guys or rogue AI". Of course I guess at least the season finale will have some world-ending stakes. But overall - it seems that finally some good old "stories" are at the center again, and not ridiculous universe-ending baddies all the time!

    "The fans will enjoy it."

That's 100% the review for a "proper" Trek show or movie. I should know, I lived through enough of them.

Not sure what is so funny about that, it was a serious plot point and a good one.
