I actually think the Discoprise looks far better with angled pylons instead of the original TOS straight pylons. What I don't like is the pointless cutout in the pylons which serves no particular purpose I can see other than to look 'cool' (and which is one of Eaves's trademarks.) So I hope that's not something they changed for SNW.

The cutout is just gratuitous. I'm no fan of the angled pylons but they'd look so much better without the cutouts!

I remember reading somewhere that the struts were originally designed to look like they did on the original Enterprise, except with an extra beam that would be removed in a later refit. Then when they were making the CGI model they made the struts angled instead, which turned the gap into a cutout.

My problem with Modern trek design is the ships often look flashy just to look
"kool" the kelvin timeline has too much of this "kool" design. I hope they tone it down for SNW

Yeah, John Eaves called it some sort of heat vent. The smaller part of the strut could be removed to make it look more TOS.

He designed some parts of the ship to look like they could be exchanged for more TOS looking parts.

They're all, always, trying to look cool. From the classic ship to Voyager, Defiant and NX-01.

Never once have they sat down and said, "right we want a dull looking ship with nothing flashy."

Surprised they haven't released any new publicity shots for SNW yet, they keep using the same Pike one from Discovery Season 2.

The next month's PRs will probably be devoted to Picard S2. Look for new SNW material around the time of episode 4 or 5.

Really? There's a bunch out there with photos of the new crew and sets. Here and here and here, all of it going back to September of last year.

Correct, but not from DSC season 2, as you mentioned earlier. Plus there are also the more recent stills from the Jefferies Tube subset. Point is, there have been quite a few promotional images from SNW since DSC S2.

Yeah, but they were probably taken by the article writers, not CBS.

I'm referring to publicity images like this. Though Picard's is from PIC Season 1. Haven't been given new ones yet for Season 2. The Lower Decks one might also be Season 1, but it's not like Mariner changed any between the two seasons.
