USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

My only issue with the shape of the DSC Enterprise is the pylons. Other than that she feels close enough to the TOS version of the Enterprise that I can't nitpick much. Even the shorter neck doesn't bother me the way it used to.

My aesthetic issues are smaller in scale(so to speak) and you have to take a closer look from above or a slightly elevated position relative to the bow of the saucer to really notice them.

What I don't like about the Discoprise, and I do like it really, is that it doesn't look very elegant and sophisticated, unlike mostly all of the previous Enterprises. I don't know, there's just something about it.

The DSC Enterprise looks like someone took the NX-01 and extrapolated from there, rather than just using the original Jefferies design. And the final product still doesn’t really look like any of the other Starfleet ship designs in season 1. They might as well have just shown the ship like how it looked in TOS.

The Discoprise brings nothing original to the table apart from the split pylons. Luckily the interior sets are really nice, and incorporate new concepts, like the bridge being open to the corridor behind leading to busier look.

The fan rendering that Anson Mount has on his Facebook header is awesome, and combines the TMP and ST'09 ships far more successfully than the Discoprise combines the NX01 and TOS ships.

From a distance it looks like a gray version of the refit. At least what the Eaglemoss version on my shelf looks like.

There are elements I really like, but a few things stick out for me: should have been a rectangular viewscreen, they went overkill on the lighting, and the console chairs needed to be updated, the Shenzhou bridge chairs were a good update on the design.

I do like the Discoprise for the most part but I'm not a fan of the pylons or it's rather wider appearance. I don't really like the impulse engines either. Too bulky for my liking. Other than that, It's not too bad.

Straight pylons would definitely have helped that.

Possibly, yes. I love the angled pylons of the refit, but straight ones might've worked better for this one.

No surprise there, given the designer.

Well, it'd look even _more_ out of place.

Yeah, Madkoifish's design is possibly my favourite fan Enterprise. Other than my own, that is.

When you consider that Eaves's starting point with the DSC Enterprise was concept art for the NX-01 he made during preproduction of ENT, it's even less surprising.
The concept art that’s been released seems suggests otherwise. He eventually started using his NX art as inspiration partway in designing it, but that wasn’t the starting point, The starting point was the original Connie, and was modified from there.

Do I need to post that image showing all the revisions again?

So when he was given the go ahead to 'proceed,' this wasn't actually his starting point?

Yes. We have a concept sheet from the eaglemoss booklet showing the different revisions of the Connie design before getting to that one.

That was the design the art director liked the most, but it wasn’t the first one Eaves did.

I can’t find the full page ATM, it is buried somewhere in this thread, but here is part of it via TrekMovie
