Doing my third rewatch. Noticed that Peck's rhythm and cadence in the cave is similar to what Nimoy used in the Naked Time when trying to fight influence of the virus.

Cadence is very important when it comes to doing Nimoy. His style is quite unique where he places emphasis and much trickier to duplicate than say Shatner's or Stewart's are.

Common sense. Shuttles have only limited speed and fuel and so they can only be short range.
If we say the max speed of the shuttle is Warp 5 (and that is pushing it) it would take weeks to get to Talos from Vulcan. That’s a long time to be stuck in a shuttle

Likely enough gas stations along the way to stock up.

so, starships have unlimited speed and fuel?

Editing can be a real mess when they significantly shorten an episode or movie.

I remember during the strike-shortened NFL season, ABC broadcast The Search for Spock in the time slot where Monday Night Football would have been. The editing ended up changing elements of the plot!

so if a starship with limited fuel can go to the edge of the galaxy, a shuttle with little less fuel can't go Talos IV which is considerably nearer?

Crack those dilithium crystals and you're screwed. Unless some one is wearing them as jewelry.

Reminds me of the Borellian Nomen and their laser boles from Battlestar Galactica....

We don’t know that. The Milky Way is around a thousand light years thick and we don’t know where Earth is in that. It could only be 20 light years from the barrier.

I'm pretty sure we know exactly where Earth is. What we don't know is where the 1701 was at that time during the 5 year mission.
