That new ready room, though.

This show really does love its Amber and Teal.

Thinking a bit more deeply about it, I think the second episode was much worse than the first as a piece of television, but it was also much better as a Star Trek episode, if that makes any sense. It had the "Trek feel" in spades - everything from the entire bridge crew putting their heads together to solve a problem to in-depth discussions about the nature of faith and the Prime Directive. But it was just shot, edited, lit, and mixed in a way which ruined my enjoyment. I couldn't be engrossed in the story because the production was taking me out of immersion and making me nitpick.

The 24th century Prime Directive may have been revised a little since the 23rd century General Order 1.
Maybe instances like this brought about some reconsideration and tweaking of the General order/Prime Directive.

The regulation most likely evolved over the course of a century. Hell, laws and policies change in a matter of years in real life.

yeah so apparently sometime between TOS and TNG, humans were made an exception to the prime directive. Maybe this example with Pike caused a judge to rule on it then change it at that point.

Oh man, that was quite enjoyable. I wasn't a fan of ENT's remix style, but I dig DSC's. An ENT remix of a TOS episode with a TNG solution but with the DSC flare. I don't need DSC to be this every episode, obviously, but for sure I need at least one episode of something that I've 'seen before' but retold in a modern story. And it sprinkled hints of the overall plot, which is exactly what I've wanted! First two episodes have been 'episodic' but the serialized story is there.

EDIT: after glancing up a couple posts, I felt I should point out that I just watched the episode and am getting ready for bed, so I'll catch up with the rest of the thread tomorrow :)

I gave it an 8, and I liked it pretty well.

What worries is me that all the new Trek converts I know who came in with Discovery have been mildly disappointed with this season so far. That's fewer than ten people, so hardly anything to draw conclusions from, but I would hate to see the show lose that newer audience.

For the ready room, I would have preferred if he just used his quarters as habit since that’s what he did on the Enterprise.

That’s a load of nonsense. Whatever doesn’t kill usually weakens you.
The plague for instance. If you survive that you are left with massive scarring on your lungs.

My own life experience tells me otherwise. I'm not talking about the plague. I'm talking about going through drama, life trauma, and hardship. If you think that's nonsense you've been luckier in life than me. A lot luckier.

You deal with poverty, you deal with people you care about who have drug addictions, you deal with being molested, and that's going to change your perspective a little. Not everyone lives a happy, cushy fucking life.

This is one of the better lost Earth colony episodes. Most are bad.

I am tiring of Burnham's facial language. She is annoying.

How badly damaged was the United States by WWIII?

Still thinking about it, but I think I liked this better than the premiere.

Not crazy about them already bringing back the spore drive though.
