The rest:
- Tilly. Sorry, but you irritate the bejesus out of me (although my partner loves her, so YMMV). I found a few scenes with her reminding me of fucking Gilmore Girls with the unrealistic speed of light dialogue.
It feels like they ripped her stock character out of that show and placed her in space. That's my biggest issue with Tilly, I've seen this character before on other shows in the vein of Gilmore Girls, as you said. Not the best fit for a Trek series, and I don't buy her as being this super genius.
I'll even go as far to say that Sonequa's Burnham is more convincing as a brilliant scientist, despite the show telling us that she is the 'smartest person' evaaar.
I hope you understood that was sarcasm, or that your post was also sarcasm
My favourite line
Loved that line. Definitely not something Hunter's Pike would say, but it was a very Shatner-esque line!
That's interesting about your take on Detmer. My opinion of her improved dramatically this episode, because we got to see her really emote, and she has a personality, and it's one I like. I want to see more from her and Owosekun. That part about "you do have us, right ladies?" and them scrambling for an answer was great. I want more of that.
We did? That's really stretching it. I've seen random redshirts of the day on other Trek shows get more to work with. I think the background bridge crew will remain the way they are. Not actual developed characters.
I'm good with that though. They all seem like limited actors, who are glorified extras.
It looks like the Spore Drive is spinning up again eventually...so I for one CAN NOT WAIT to see the argumentative banter between Reno and Stamets.
They are keeping the stupid Reno character? Lol. Oh dear.
I didn't like it all.
People (even those who don't like it) keep saying Pike was good. I'm not sure why. There wasn't much there.
I really enjoyed Pike, but I get your perspective. Anson was a breath of fresh air, but he didn't really bring anything new that we haven't seen on Star Trek before. Just brought us back to the familiar of what makes an awesome Captain. This show needed it.
Burnham was far less of an annoyance when her focus is shared with Pike. It was a good balance.
