I think it's likely that they'll promote her in the finale with the TOS uniforms...the 'end' of her journey to captaincy, and the end of our journey to TOS. ...Either that or she dead.
Please let it be the latter.

I think the series will go the way you suggest here, Burnham being promoted to Captain, complete with long-running monologue.I think it's likely that they'll promote her in the series finale with the TOS uniforms...the 'end' of her journey to captaincy, and the end of our journey to TOS. ...Either that or she dead.

Everybody dies eventually.Well I mean, she dies eventually for sure, right?
You quoted just as I was editing my post, haha. I believe it will be the series finale.
I like the slightly more acerbic Stamets we saw (a little of) last season. It looks like the Spore Drive is spinning up again eventually...so I for one CAN NOT WAIT to see the argumentative banter between Reno and Stamets.

I did like the one to start Season 2, the "Space, The Final Frontier" one, but Season 1 had a few too many, IMO.Wasn't a fan of s1's finale monologue...but both her premiere monologues have been great! Her 'Space, the final frontier' was poignant and beautiful.

I think Stamets works best when he is "brilliant and knows it", but unfortunately this "lost his way" Stamets we've been getting is pretty boring.
I was going to give this episode a 10, if not for the completely unnecessary and frankly insulting recasting of one of the greatest Star Trek characters. So I give it a 3.

Let me guess, you are of African descent, with skin tone like SMG and with textured coily hair right? So speak from a position of knowledge about racial politics and African minorities in the West. Also, there was nothing 'racist' about Burnham's hair - at least not from a production standpoint. It was meant as a visual representation of her character progression.
The straight hair in the pilots was distinctly derivative of Vulcan crops. It was there to show she was still trying to cling to pretending to be Vulcan, which ultimately backfires and lands her in prison.
The whole rest of the season - which is all about her embracing her 'real' self, show her with her (or more specifically, SMG's) natural hair.
That's interesting that you dropped your rating by 7 points because of a character that isn't even in the episode.
You'd probably make a horrible Doctor Who fan too.
I hope you understood that was sarcasm, or that your post was also sarcasmThat's interesting that you dropped your rating by 7 points because of a character that isn't even in the episode.

That's interesting about your take on Detmer. My opinion of her improved dramatically this episode, because we got to see her really emote, and she has a personality, and it's one I like. I want to see more from her and Owosekun. That part about "you do have us, right ladies?" and them scrambling for an answer was great. I want more of that.I don't really know how to explain how I felt about this episode. I definitely enjoyed bits of it, but was very underwhelmed overall. A lot of style over substance. I didn't hate it, but only felt I could give it a six.
On a side note, I can't help but feel weirded out by Detmer's constant smug grin. I think I noticed it a few times last series, but it seemed even worse this time.
My god, I'm hating my post already. I tend to try not being too negative, and have really liked Disco from the start. I think Pike's line about expectations was apt (even though it annoyed the hell out of me, as if the line was written like he was talking directly to the audience instead of Burnham), but I was expecting better. I think I might just be overwhelmed with just how much other Trek is on its way. It might also be because I miss After Trek.
Her character development prior to Season 2 is clearly lined out in the series.Let me guess, you are of African descent, with skin tone like SMG and with textured coily hair right? So speak from a position of knowledge about racial politics and African minorities in the West.
I like Saru's character a lot and its possible that he and Burnham could anchor the show together, it is probably for the best that Pike is there though as Anson Mount has done a great job so far and provides more presence than either of those two, Lorca was great until he went off the deep end which was a waste if you ask me but there is a chance we could see the PU version sooner or later.Anson Mount's take on Pike certainly contributes. I rather liked Lorca, I just hate the way his character arc was resolved. He went from complex, and mysterious to scenery chewing villain. Didn't like that. I think they're working subtle out with Pike here, in the hopes that he can keep the show on an even keel. I also like that with Pike (and Mount's style in particular) things are more straightforward. We know the bridge crew's names and hear them directly in the episode, we get to see them cooperate, even the bridge feels a little brighter with Pike at the helm instead of Lorca (likely due to both Lorca's sensitivity and his personality).
We've replaced one white guy for another (I was hoping Saru would get the Captain's chair), but at least this white guy seems to scratch an itch a few people had with the tone of the previous season. Whether that's as bad as you say, we'll see, but I'm hoping we get more fun, creative stories, and real character development from everyone in the cast. The ship already feels more like a Starfleet ship now than it did the last season, and with no Klingon war (ugh) hanging over their heads, things even feel more optimistic.
Or perhaps it represents his betrothal to T'Pring.Or they just tossed in there with no regard to context. It was something Vulcan that looked cool.
Yes that is it!The show is made on 21st century Earth, so the biases of the writers and our culture still come into play and have to be considered. I'd assumed that the poster who raised the point originally was talking about the racism of the production, not Sarek's family.
Give it up.Please let it be the latter.
