Did anyone else notice the little fortune Pike found in the ready room?

"Not every cage is a prison"

I thought that was a clever and exceptional little nod.
I knew they were trying to point to something when the held the close up shot, but it didn't register at first. Then about five minutes later the lights went on and I had "Derp. Don't be a moron, Cleggy!" moment.

I thought it was really interesting that the dialogue indicated that the Enterprise was isolated from the war, perhaps purposefully, perhaps as a result of the 5-year mission.

So does everyone think outside of the Discovery that Lorca betrayed Starfleet? Seems rather cruel. What happens when Prime Lorca returns? We all know he will.

Prime Lorca is still out there

Early release information I saw identified Tig Notaro's character as being named Denise Reno, but I could have sworn that the episode identified her as Janet Reno, and so I'm wondering and why they changed her name.

I can answer this! On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Notaro explained that the character was originally named Denise Reno, but she got to rename her character, and she picked Jet.

Hmm. Thanks for that.

I wonder why Star Trek.Com still identifies her as "Denise" .

I expect his ennui displayed in the Boyce scene will come into play at some point. You got to figure that it persisted after the events of the episode for some time only for him to see a good portion of his fellow officers die in a war less than two years later. That's got to pile on the guilt. I also think it accounts for his reactions during the pod chase.

And on that note, if there isn't a scene at some point where he says "There a things an officer will tell her bartender that she won't tell her captain." Ima gonna be unhappy.

A crestfallen Lorca, scarred and battered looks mornfully at what few posessions were stored pending the reading of his will. He turns sadly to Admiral Cornwell, months of pain and loss behind his eyes and says "You shot my fortune cookies?"

The cookies were from the Mirror Universe too.

Any time someone uses the word "ennui," it becomes a little brighter day
