Holy crap, that was awesome!

I've never been a big fan of TOS, but seeing the Enterprise and the multicolored uniforms still made me smile.

I can't help but wonder why they chose to swap out Shazad Latif for Wilson Cruz as a Series Regular, especially since we know that Tyler will be back.

I loved Captain Lorca, but Pike is a fun replacement, and the fact that he'll essentially be sharing the duties of command with Saru sets the stage for some fun and interesting storytelling that isn't like anything we've seen before.

I really wish we'd learned more about why Burnham and Spock's relationship is "frosty", but I guess the show needs to leave room for future storytelling, especially with Spock set for a recurring role as we go forward.

One thing that was kind of driving me crazy is Tilly still wearing Operations bronze when she's been shifted to the Command track, but maybe there will be a good explanation for that in future episodes.

Early release information I saw identified Tig Notaro's character as being named Denise Reno, but I could have sworn that the episode identified her as Janet Reno, and so I'm wondering and why they changed her name.

For some reason, I thought that Spock had a higher rank than that of Lieutenant at this point, but maybe I was wrong.

All in all, I really enjoyed this episode and can't wait until next week to see what happens now.

I may be crushing too hard on Detmer. Tilly might have some competition.

I actually thought Tilly was a little annoying tonight. In fact if I had two complaints it was Tilly and Connaly.

That was a great star to the season, I think I enjoyed that more than any of Season 1. They started to get more of a Trek feel as the season went on, but this was the firs time the show really felt like Star Trek to me.
Anson Mount was great as Pike.
I loved that so much of the episode revolved around saving people, that was a nice change from the war in Season 1.
It was really nice to get more fun, and humor.
I loved the scene with the pods heading to the astoroid, that was really cool and exciting.
So I wonder if the we'll get to see more of the Enterprise?
The introduction of Tig Notaro as Reno was pretty good, I loved her "kids" and the different ways she was keeping her crewmates alive.

Star Trek.Com identifies the character as Denise Reno, so "Jet" does appear to be a nickname.

I know it's a completely inane reaction to have, but I always feel kinda crappy when everyone shits on Lorca on the show now.

Granted, he turned out to be an evil bad guy, but I loved that character.

This was more like it. Mount's Pike lights up the place. Really liked Tig Notaro's character, too. I enjoyed the focus on character in general. And it looked amazing.

Not everything worked, but my complaints were fairly minor, so I won't dwell on them here. This was a major course correction, and I hope the rest of the season follows suit.
