Me too! I was just thinking how the problem with Bajor was the men. Bareil, Shakaar, Li Nalas, Mullibok... it's one dud male character after another. Meanwhile, the female Bajorans are among the best characters in all of Trek... Kira, Ro, Winn.
It's too bad it didn't occur to anyone at the time to make Bajor a matriarchal society. Not to go all "Angel One" with it, just let it matter-of-factly be that way. God knows we had enough casually patriarchal societies.
And just as a tactical matter, there's fewer appealing roles for women (especially then!), so it's easier to get a Louise Fletcher, a high caliber performer who elevates everything she touches. Meanwhile, everyone is after the prime age white-guys (especially then!), so a syndicated sci-fi show without much $ for guest cast really has to dig through the remainder bin when they need to fill those roles...
Dukat's dialog hits a little too close to home for the last year.

Yeah, it does. During my rewatch of DS9 during the fall, I saw a lot of similarities between the fictional story and current real life. It was eerie. I should have made notes.
