For sure. MacFarlane - love him or hate him - has his finger on the pulse of pop culture like few other people in contemporary Hollywood.
Great Episode!! Lorcas last scene reminds me of an nazi - scientist. Mysterious.
Noticed this as well, the shoulder-lights aren't turned on. My guess is that during filming they are actually a nuisance because they keep shining directly into the camera, which would be a weird flaw on the custom designer's part. That or they just decided they wanted the scenes on the Glenn to be darker for atmospheric purposes.- The boarding party vests appear to have flashlights built into the shoulders, but the away team still used hand-held lights. If those things aren't flashlights up there, what are they?

And please, why add that tidbit about Amanda reading Alice in Wonderland to Burnham and Spock. So, she definitely was part of the family structure, and not just Sarek's pet project. Still, Spock never mentionned her? Why insert her so much into that family and therefore provoke frowning?
Spock does not talk about his family, not even to his close colleagues. e.g Journey to Babel and STV.
The Orville is way ahead of them, there.
Only thing is that I thought it seemed a bit small universe for both Saru and the helms/Ops woman to also be on the Discovery.
Not strictly, more a dramedy or something along those lines.Orville is also a comedy.
Nope. DS9 was the best of the Berman era shows and the Dominion War arc was excellent.Badly.
Discovery isn't supposed to be just like The Orville. Discovery and The Orville each have their own type of humor and distinct approaches. And, it's not even a competition--although that seems to be the lens through which you see it. They're both doing well in their own ways. The Orville is way ahead of them, there.
Orville is also a comedy.
She had a giant pimple on her forehead.24th century should have solved this...
new way to fly.correct term is new way to travel.using spores to travel instantly?..stupid sword/sorcery fantasy=bad writing.ignorant writers.
This was just bad writing. The writers should be fired.Everyone was awful and badly behaved. It was more like Jarhead type..
Liked this episode better than the first 2. It was intriguing, mysterious, a good setup for the next episodes. But:
It doesn't feel like Star Trek. The tone's so far way too dark, Lorca's morals are questionable at best (and I wouldn't dismiss Burnham's initial theories about what's going on on Discovery,i.e. bio weapons), and the other characters are ranging from bland to forgettable. Guess I know why that spineless former science officer ended up as Lorca's first officer... he'll never oppose him. And that cadet? If you're not able to introduce a prodigal child-character, just add the second-best, an enthusiastic childlike cadet who feels she has to prove something. Urgh.

I'm also not quite sure how Discovery will fit in with canon Trek as we know there're no spore-driven engines, no mention of hunger and strife because of a Klingon War that at least lasted 6 months just 10 years prior to TOS, no possible bioweapons... Hm, somehow I can sense a time-anomaly/reset-button coming at the end of the series' run...
For now, I'll keep watching it as another random Sci-Fi-series because it's reasonably entertaining - maybe it will still live up to the name Star Trek, but right now I don't see that coming.
One thing wrong with this where was the klingon ship, did they just drop men off and leave them .Another thing an experimental warp system it fails a's we never hear about itagain in future trek . This is not star trek based on gene''s trek but using words and terms from it, you noticed from pilot when the captain said we are starfleet we don't fire and first officer wanted to shoot ,now she is under a captain that thinks that way
And let's not forget that he was responsible for the death of the shuttle pilot.
As much as I otherwise love it, nothing can top DS9 for ridiculous "small universe" moments. At the end of the series, two main cast members were heads of major Alpha quadrant governments (albeit briefly in one case) and a third was a god.
Do we know that pilot died? Could have easily been beamed up by the Discovery. The shuttle flies off again at the end of the episode, so someone's at the controls. And let's not forget that he was responsible for the death of the shuttle pilot.
How long does it take to read Alice in Wonderland?
The average reader, reading at a speed of 300 WPM, would take approximately 0 hours and 59 minutes to read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
It's also more of a science fiction adventure series.![]()
