Okay, I did the stupid thing, and try to argue with facts. Against people who are clearly not interested in facts. This was a quote from July by me:
    https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/the-new-uss-discovery.286143/page-57
(Read there to se the rest of how my argument remained the same).

This is a quote from this thread:

You might recognize: IT'S THE SAME POSITION. Since July.

Artwork, drawings, toys? Yes. FInished cgi-model? No. Nut until the premiere. Which is NOW. Which is the time we were getting it. That's what I said would happen. That's what happened.

If you didn't understood me back then (even if purposefully), and didn't understand me now, I think it's more amazing how much YOUR straw-argument of "what I said" changed during that time.

And I really don't want to hijack this whole threat with it, but YOU started it here in the first place!
By misquoting me, reducing my arguments to "they'll never show it" and then make fun of it when they showed it. Despite that being comically seperated from reality. Despite them showing it exactly when I said they would.

$6.00 a month for a show, with commercials I can't fast forward through, or $9.99 a month for no commercials, for a series whose seasons are limited to only 15 episodes, is just too expensive. Would have been better if Netflix bought the rights exclusively, and added it to their worldwide catalog. It would make Netflix even more enticing. As it stands under the CBS All Access situation, it's just too expensive to pay for one show. I'll wait for this to come out on DVD or Blu-ray, and rent it.

But those promos/posters are the final CG model.

If you look closely, not exactly.
Not completely rendered, without finished textures, missing lightning etc.
They were fiddling with it right until probably around a few days ago (not so uncommon in the cg-world). The differences might look small, and they're certainly technical enough not many peple will notice them. But it makes the difference between "showing a finished product", and "showing a work in progress". They didn't wanted to do the latter, that's why we only ever saw the ship in a "drawn", touched-up style, instead of a clear view of the finished product. Until now, after the premiere.

No theories on Discovery being a Section 31 ship yet?

I understand your reasoning, and agree it being on Netflix would've been far preferable, but after what, 12 years of no episodic Trek television, and thus no money shelled out for DVD's of new Trek seasons, I'll bite the bullet on this expense through gritted teeth. If it turns out not to my liking or at least not to 10 bucks a month worth, I'll end the subscription and wait for other avenues like you.

I think the whole mushroom thing combined with what we now know of the plot of the show as a whole have finally begun to nail that particular coffin closed, and mount it on the hull.

You know if Jason Isaacs was the series lead, and his struggle was being a Section 31 agent in command of a starship while questioning what Section 31 stands for VS Federation ideals....... I think I'd be more interested in this.

Section 31 only works if its 3 or 4 guys in an office. As soon as it becomes some kind of Tal Shiar secret police, or a fifth column in Starfleet the whole concept not only becomes silly, and makes little or no sense, but it also undermines very fundamentally the idea of Star Trek's future. I hope they never come up in Discovery in any way, shape or form.

I'd be fine to never, ever see Section 31 again. It was one of my favourite parts of DS9. Because it was so unique and unexpected. It was alright in Enterprise (simply because DS9 specifically stated it was "part of the foundation of the Federation"). Where it also was more of a shadow-y spy thing. It was almost unbearable how it was squeezed into "Into Darkness".

But I really think it only ever works as a slight scratch on the otherwise perfect image of Star Trek. It DOESN'T work as a "core concept" or central theme of Star Trek. It's a slimy devision counter acting outside threats. A shady spy agency. NOT a central conspiracy orchestrating the core of the Federation.

Does anyone have a link to the preview with the picture and sound synced up? It's a bit distracting.

That preview moves me towards a more positive view of the future of this show. I hope next weeks "pilot" is better than this weeks "pilot", because I really do want to like this new series.

    "Caught in the cross fire."

    * Harriot Mudd in the comics is old enough to predate the Kelvin timeline split or so close that the split would not have affected her birth.
    * She's alive in the Kelvin universe.
    * She's not in the Prime uni...

    Oh, shit.

I understand the sentiment but I honestly don't want it on netflix. Mainly becaue I thnk Netflix is starting to get way too big and there the distance between 1 and 2 is the streaming market is HUGE. That long term is not good for the consumer because it comes close to creating a monopoy. I know things are starting to change some with some networks pulling stuff off netflix and that is a good thing. We don't need one huge mega streaming service and little else. I'd rather have several smaller ones where I can pick and choose what I want to subscribe too based on what they offer.
