Well, now that the Kingdom has declared war... though I hope Gavin gets some mercy. He actually tried to be decent, and tried not to kill anyone or be unreasonable.
Walking Dead Season 7 Discussion - Spoilers possible!

A bit predictable yet entertaining finale
I wasn't really surprised by anything in the show apart from Sasha's death circumstances and the "Oh crap" moment when it was revealed. Given that we knew she'd star in the new Trek show it was a given that she would die in this finale but how they did it was the only real surprise of the episode.
The rest was very predictable and formulaic, real Hollywood last moment Cavalry save. That's not necessarily bad, sometimes you need the good guys to win in such a bleak show but it kept the finale from being truly great.
I never liked the concept and execution of the "Trash people".. their whole mannerism didn't work at all. The apocalypse is now what.. 4 years ago, and they behave like they all grew up without parents or civilization and had to invent language and social skills from scratch. That's ok for Mad Max where they went all in with the Post Apocalypse (but even they managed to speak in coherent sentences) but it didn't work at all in the show so it was also not a surprise when they switched sides.
Rick being dumbfounded at the betrayal was also very naive.. come on, you trust people you just met and supplied them with guns and expect them to follow through without any kind of safeguard or a little recon? Some bloody mistake he made in season 6 when he took on the Saviours without doing some intelligence work first and he paid dearly for that mistake.
Hilltop and Kingdom coming in was cool though.. some nice battle action and you don't see a Tiger eating the face of a man every day
Best part though was Maggie's thoughts at the end remembering Glenn and how he was the one who brough them all together, how he was the glue that held everyone together (i may have choked up a little but since there were no witnessess i can deny it).
It was also nice to see Negan knocked down a peg if only temporarily.. him giving the finger as they retreated made me laugh hard, that was so Negan
Given how fantastic this season started with the mother of all gut punches it dragged on for large stretches.. highlights were always Rick's and Negan#s interactions but otherwise i have to say it was a pretty mediocre season that could have cut some episodes to speed it all up a bit. Anyway, it's a good set up for season 8 that's bound to have some more speed to it.

The only thing i didn't get was the scene with Daryl finding this figure.. i can't remember the significance. What was that about?

It looked like one of Dwight's chess pieces and the message on it was "I didn't know". He knew Daryl would get the message that way. Whether Daryl believes him or cuts him any slack is another question.
I gotta admit I did an air fist bump when Shiva leapt into action. Seeing Negan get knocked down by walker Sasha was great too.
Just have to say Negan must really like Rick on some morbid level, Rick saying (for the second time) that he is going to kill Negan, why Negan doesn't just Lucille him right there is a mystery. But a lot of what Negan does is moronic.

I want a buddy episode next season with just Ninja-Jesus and Ninja-Shiva my two favourite characters at the moment.
Oh i think he came very close to it by the look of it but the rage subsided quick enough. However he had the most awesone line of the episode "Rick, you suck ass!"
Trekker4747: what Push the Button said, adding there's not enough beer, paint chips, Vicodin, Percocet and lighter fluid on earth to offset the psychological trauma one would suffer after accepting the sexual advances of Jadis.
The problem is that Jadis and her lieutenant survived--with both taking a special interest in Rick and Michonne.
That could be an off-camera moment. I have a feeling that there will not be much of a passage of time between the events of this episode and the start of season 8, so everyone will just fall into their positions-getting ready for the next attack..
Warning to survivors of the ZA: talk about hope and no one needing to die, and you're a goner. "The First Day of the Rest of Your Life" mirrored the season three finale "Welcome to the Tombs":
- The series' marksman female (Sasha and Andrea, respectively) captured in an earlier episode
- Pleading that "no one else has to die" to the latest Big Bad (falling on deaf ears) only to end up dying in the episode
- The Big Bad is forced to retreat, with the guarantee that he will return in one way or another
There was a bit of misdirection / foreshadowing a few episodes ago in "Say Yes" with all of the death/you have to go on" dialogue between Rick and Michonne, leading many a fan to think that--and Jadis (as of the finale) making dark reference to "lay" with Rick "after"--meant Michonne was on shaky ground. Her beating at the hands of the Scavenger--and the distant scream played on that misdirection from "Say Yes".
It would seem they did sabotage it, but when and how is unknown.
They still have a doctor at the Kingdom, so they might recover at a normal pace.
Its all been suggestion that the Saviors have numerous, heavily occupied outposts, and from the size of the crowds seen in the finale of seasons 6 & 7, they outnumber the heroes to rather frightening degrees.
It's easy to say that when we look at Jadis, but we must consider she's lived a hard life the last few years and probably doesn't get to the salon or the mall for new clothes very often. But Polyanna McIntonsh is a gorgeous woman who I would bow to, and glad let her take me as hers. Jadis is a strong woman not afraid to speak bluntly, "I will lay with you when this is over," wow! Give me some!

Negan moves at the speed of plot. It's been this way on the show for a while now, and it shows.
All true. But also a lot of what Negan does is theatrics. It's as much for the people watching — so as to drive the lesson home even harder. He's playing a massive psychological game with everyone around him and his sort of theatrics is the only way you can make that sort of thing work. Otherwise someone would've capped him by now.
What's moronic is that he doesn't know when to stop. He thinks he has everyone figured out and knows exactly how to manipulate them. And he's right ... to a point. He knew how to break Dwight to the point where he could trust the guy with his back. He (apparently) knew how to break Eugene by using totally different techniques. And at the beginning of the season he knew how to break Rick.
But what he hasn't figured out is you can only play that sort of game just so far and then it will backfire on you.
After their betrayal I was really hoping it would turn out they only talked that way to fool Rick and co or something, and once that turn was revealed she'd start talking normal. But no. And I agree it's absolutely ridiculous, I'd just wanna say "dude, like 3 years ago you were probably just working in a shoe shop or filing papers in office. Why are you talking like that?"
I mean are they all meant to be autistic or escaped from a loony bin or something? I honestly can't believe they were simply "normal people" beforehand.
Anyway, Season 7 was by far the worst season so far IMO. It was actually that first trash people episode (ep 2 of the second half) that made me stop watching on a weekly basis. I've only caught up in the last couple of days so I wasn't spoiled for anything in the finale (I knew nothing would happen in between. And boy was I right.)
I can see a culture "evolving" like that if they learned to hide from walker herds by practicing absolute stealth. Economy of movement, silent walk, and abbreviated speech ... or not speaking at all unless necessary. And of course, hiding among the mountains of trash and not coming out if they don't have to. This might even be plausible for "normal" people adapting within the timeframe of the show, if they were desperate enough and flexible enough.
The problem is that a culture doing that would develop other patterns of behavior along with what I said. Those patterns would tend to come across as pretty alien (and some would likely be pretty disgusting). There is no way they'd simply appear as Mad Max extras.

I was actually shocked by the finale... I figured it would end with Rick raising his gun and saying "WE"RE GOING TO WAR!" and fade to black before any action took place.
At the beginning of the season, I was happy with Jeffrey Dean Morgan's addition to the cast as Negan. I thought he brought some much needed fresh air to the series' signature grim and dreariness. But, as I've mentioned several times in this thread, reading the comics has soured me on this show. While I still enjoy JDM, his Negan is so watered down to fit TV it just kind of makes you hate the show even more. The comics have that certain something the show just doesnt (at least, not much)... FUN. Most of Negan's remarks and diatribes have me laughing my ass off. Even the main characters (Rick, Michonne, Andrea, CORRRAALLLLL!) get fun things to say and actually have human emotions. COOOORRRRAAALLLLL! gets embarrassed by things his dad says.
I don't know, I'll tune in next season, but if the war isn't even started by the mid-season finale and they stretch this fucker out for three years, I'm done.

No idea what it was, I'm sure it's a real gun and some gun experts could probably tell you what it was, how many rounds an average magazine holds and whether or not Daryl was shouldering it properly; but to me it didn't look like any gun I've ever seen (in real life or in movies/TV) and when I saw it I immediately thought of the Super Scope.

I'll be honest I found the first half of that tedious as anything. None of it made much sense and was contrived to high heaven. Why did Negan let her go in the coffin? How did she know exactly how quick Eugene's pill would work/how quickly she'd rise (isn't it different every time?) and did her sacrifice achieve anything except allow for a violent interlude that ended up where they'd have ended up anyway, with Rick and Carl on their knees.
The arrival of the Kingdom and Hilltop forces was about as surprising as the arrival of the Riders and Rohan in The Two Towers- that said once they showed up this became awesome. I did cheer when Shiva leaped into action (even though I knew it was coming) and the battle was nicely done. Also the betrayal of the scavengers did actually surprise me somewhat, and I have to say for a moment I genuinely believed Negan was going to stave Rick's head in after Rick stood (knelt?) he ground).

Tearing down the trees was for a road-block to give Alexandria, and the various other communities, time to organize, plan and get things in motion. Consider that if the roadblock hadn't been there The Saviors would've arrived at Alexandria a good hour or more sooner when The Hilltop and Kingdom were still en route.
When Eugene gave her the pill he told her it'd take effect inside of 45 minutes or so, further that's pretty much how long it takes for any medication you ingest to take effect and usually any suicide-type pills, or suicide through medication, is done with any kind of medication that slows down your body process in order to allow you to sleep, relax or rest. Suicide by medication does this by taking too high of a dose that the body does this too much and you fall asleep and your body continues to slow and shut down past the point of possible recovery. Sort of similar to how people can die in the operating room with anesthesiologist isn't effective or in some, very rare cases but it has happened, there isn't one and the surgeon or a nurse administers and monitors the anesthetic.
