Spoilers Star Trek:Discovery Uniforms Sneak Peak

Seriously, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a solid color shirt (muted colors at that), black pants and a gray jacket. It's not like we are talking about the 6th Doctor here.

You'd think after the reboot films, people wouldn't be so scared of the '60s uniforms.

In their cheap '60s state, they'd be laughable. But keeping the same general look and colour scheme while also modernizing it? I don't see a problem with that. They just need better, tighter material and a completely different collar for the men, then they'll be fine.

The issue is, a number of folks are NOT wanting it modernized. Look at the crap they pulled in the last series and DS9 before that. They did not modernize the look, at all. And it looked so very dated and cheesy. I do not think they will leave it looking dated, but a number of people foolishly think they will and should do just that.

Nobody thinks the new show's uniforms will look exactly like what came before.

A fan came up with this a few years ago. Something along these lines would suit me just fine.

This is pretty spot on. I dig it

You have not been reading what some on here and elsewhere have been posting it seems. I do not think it will look like it no, I am hoping for something modernized but paying homage to TOS. I think the new movies have shown you can update and still get the look ( fugly enterprise aside).

However, looking at what trek has done in the past does worry me a bit. They always show TOS stuff as well, "Hello 1960's TV". Which I think is a mistake. However, everything so far seen and said gives me hope this will be handled well.

Well, that's the difference with one 30th Anniversary episode and a whole series.

I don't think anyone's expecting nor wants exact replicas of the uniforms worn in The Cage.

Both of those very "very special episodes" intended to evoke nostalgia. It's a bit of a different thing to have a whole series that looks like a fan film reconstruction.

I do not think they will. I do think we will get whinge just like we did over ENT because it did not look like some 1960's idea of the future.

Except a number of folks are wanting just that, I do not think they will get it mind you, but they want it.

Unrelated note, your avatar is highly amusing.
Well, to those few people, I'd say you're fighting a lost cause. Canon is not that important.

And thanks

I've always wanted to see an interior aesthetic along the lines of 2001: A Space Odyssey in Trek.

This was also "some 1960s idea of the future" (the 1960s are my absolute favorite period when it comes to architecture and visual design, BTW), but you can see the differences between something that functioned more as a vague stage-play type of backdrop for a show meant to play on small, low-definition TV screens (TOS), and something made for gigantic cinema screens.

In fact, it's not too far removed from what we got years later in TMP and TWOK.

In an ideal world, TOS would have looked more like this. Then we might not even be having this discussion in the first place.

See I disagree here, but the way I see it the look is not canon. Its just the way it was filmed in the 1960's. You can change the look and keep everything just as it was.
Well, it is canon, and it was filmed in the '60s, so neither one of us is wrong there. I don't think it's subjective, if it's on-screen, it's canon unless said otherwise.

But yes, you can easily modernize the uniforms without breaking canon or anything. Check the difference in collars from The Cage to Where No Man Has Gone Before. No reason you can't change the look quite a bit (while also remaining faithful to the original show) since DSC is set in between those two periods of time.

No argument there. I don't want the look tossed, just modernized.

Honestly, I would like to see something closer to ENT or The Maroon Monsters. I think they could keep the coloration but update them like the newer movies and it would give the right feel.

I also imagine more debates about lime green vs. gold will break out now that the difference between the two might mean more with these uniforms

Watching TOS, command and operations look very similar in those two pilots.

The colors have changed a few times. But yes, there will be arguments about green vs gold. Maybe to the death...well to the angry rage quit anyhow.
