You'd think after the reboot films, people wouldn't be so scared of the '60s uniforms.
In their cheap '60s state, they'd be laughable. But keeping the same general look and colour scheme while also modernizing it? I don't see a problem with that. They just need better, tighter material and a completely different collar for the men, then they'll be fine.
Nobody thinks the new show's uniforms will look exactly like what came before.

Well, that's the difference with one 30th Anniversary episode and a whole series. The issue is, a number of folks are NOT wanting it modernized. Look at the crap they pulled in the last series and DS9 before that. They did not modernize the look, at all. And it looked so very dated and cheesy. I do not think they will leave it looking dated, but a number of people foolishly think they will and should do just that.
I don't think anyone's expecting nor wants exact replicas of the uniforms worn in The Cage.
Both of those very "very special episodes" intended to evoke nostalgia. It's a bit of a different thing to have a whole series that looks like a fan film reconstruction. The issue is, a number of folks are NOT wanting it modernized. Well, to those few people, I'd say you're fighting a lost cause. Canon is not that important.Except a number of folks are wanting just that, I do not think they will get it mind you, but they want it.
Unrelated note, your avatar is highly amusing.
Canon is not that important.
And thanks![]()
Well, it is canon, and it was filmed in the '60s, so neither one of us is wrong there. I don't think it's subjective, if it's on-screen, it's canon unless said otherwise.See I disagree here, but the way I see it the look is not canon. Its just the way it was filmed in the 1960's. You can change the look and keep everything just as it was.
In an ideal world, TOS would have looked more like this. Then we might not even be having this discussion in the first place.

But yes, you can easily modernize the uniforms without breaking canon or anything. Check the difference in collars from The Cage to Where No Man Has Gone Before. No reason you can't change the look quite a bit (while also remaining faithful to the original show) since DSC is set in between those two periods of time.
