Oi. A little optimism here.

But I agree with everything else you said.

Just got back from my showing. Theater was very full, so that was nice. Also, I didn't see a single cell phone out during the movie, and no one was talking during the movie. Guess we Trekkers have better manners then a lot of movie goers! This was my favorite Star Trek film since First Contact.

I heard this as a direct reference to the toast offered by Kirk at his Sam Francisco apartment in the aftermath of losing Spock on Genesis, right before Sarek shows up. Made me a little misty...

That was my understanding, too, it felt like an echo of the same moment in TSFS. It felt like a respectful acknowledgement, during what was otherwise meant to be a celebratory occasion.

I assume the Franklin was an older ship still in service.

    I...
Liked it a lot better than Into Darkness. It didn't feel like it was running a race against itself to struggle to compete with other big action movies. It found a balance between those dreaded "boring talky scenes" and impressive action sequences. It didn't go too over the top with references to past shows and movies, and kept the pop culture joke references at minimum (no KHAAAAAAAN!!!!!... please, I cringed to death at that) The entire audience laughed at the Bones-Spock dialogue and I heard sniffling and crinkling napkins when Spock pulls out the ST5 cast photo, which I found very unexpected.

I liked it a lot. A lot more than the last Star Wars movie, and about as much as the last two Star Trek movies in this series. I hope we get more like them.

    Also...
What was with the end credits font? It looked like the TNG style and it felt weird and out of place to me. Also placing Rihanna's "Sledgehammer" during the credits instead of the usual Giaccino suite was... odd... I wouldn't call it "bad" but it wasn't what I was expecting

Remember that the Captain of the Franklin a MACO - He probably saw action aboard Enterprise during the Xindi mission as a MACO enlisted man. He was also upset the MACOs had been disbanded. It wasn't necessarily that the Franklin had seen action against the Xindi directly.

A+ for me. I'm not going into a long review, I suck at those. I'm just gonna say that this was by far the best of the three Kelvin Timeline movies. I can't remember how many times I shed a tear or more, laughed out loud, was amazed by all the tiny little references....

    Yeah, I'm happy.

Yes, but the Franklin is warp 4. Why give the captain of a new ship, someone who fought the Xindi, a warp 4 ship? That's what doesn't make sense.

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
I can see why Axanar had to be smashed.

Garth = Historic captain from the Romulans wars gone insain and jailed.

Edison = Historic Captain from the Romulan Wars gone insane and got his ass kicked.

I don't think it was new when he took command of it. For example, you could own a car that had the very first electronic fuel injection. A milestone in technological development, but if you own it now, it's outdated and old.

My take is that Franklin was launched before Enterprise NX-01, and lost after it.

Exactly. Launched as Franklin NX-326 Class prior to Enterprise, recommissioned as USS Franklin NX-326 once the Federation was chartered and then given to Edison.

"Thanks for saving the world. Here's a used car."

You don't thank someone with anything used. I'm still thinking it's a script glitch.

More like, "You no longer serve much of a purpose to us with what you're good at so here's a used car, go find some stuff with it."

Probably played a part in why he was pissed off and felt unwanted by the Federation. And a very poignant analogy of how we treat our veterans now.
