I reckon a few months or maybe a 1 year. I wonder what happened to the Franklin. I wonder if she was left there.

Cracking movie, lot's of little Trek references to pick up on, charactor scene together were right out of TOS, effect's were simply eye popping, and i stayed away from all spoilers so i got everything from the screen first, and i won't post any spoliers just in case.

A+ from me, can't wait for the 3D BR release to watch it again.

I thought Earth ships like his NX Franklin didn't even have shields yet so I doubt Krall would know enough about that from his time as MACO or captain. Polarized hull plating is mentioned, isn't it?
True. You're absolutely right. But he'd been monitoring Starfleet *communications* (for decades?), and he had a copy of the current Yorktown database. His experience as a MACO made hacking the database easy, and he was no doubt able to absorb all of Starfleet's technological advancements, by building on everything he knew, right? Besides, all warp-capable starships have to have at least navigational deflectors in order to go to warp. I'd think that the idea of deflector shields is arguably an obvious extension of that, probably one discussed in even his time in the MACO as the direction of future technology, pending the arrival of more powerful shield generators. ;)

l loved when they showed Scotty hanging off a cliff but don't show how he managed to climb up, Also one thing how did the Franklin have a RF Radio?

The only thing that kinda threw me off a bit during the movie was after Kirk and Chekov got out of their escape pods on the planet, they were suddenly wearing a different uniform. I was so bothered by this...lol.. Did they change clothes in the escape pod? They were clearly wearing the standard starfleet uniform when they were evacuating the ship and showing going into the pod wearing said uniform. They changed uniforms the moment they stepped out onto the planet.... I was like "wtf"...lol.. Anyone else noticed this inconsistency?
It wouldn't be a difficult stretch to think that the Kelvin Pods (yes they were called that) would have some sort of survival gear/uniform for the person assigned to that pod...

I gave the movie a B+. As a purist, who defines Star Trek as the wonderment of what we would find in space, and using that as a prism for the internal journey, adventure, I found much to like in this film. As a man who has taken an Intro to Cinema course at a local community college (look at me! I am GREAT at this ;) ), I found the movie's aestetics to be a bit more canned than the previous direction under Abrams. The universe wasn't as dark, but it certainly wasn't as livable, either.

So, before I nitpick, what I liked: First, the alien swarm was a clever idea. Having a man bent on proving humanity needs darkness to create a generation of strong individuals, flying in the face of Gene Roddenberry's vision, brilliant. The fact the heroines--Uhura and Jahyla--are tremendously important in the film--a BIG improvement from other incarnations of Trek, including those Roddenberry had his hands all over. They kick ass in this movie, and there wasn't a single scene where one of them is in their underwear. Awesome. Jahyla is a wonderful foil for Kirk. She reflects his best instincts, the man who can save the world.

Kirk being in a place of boredom, three years into exploring space, a good turn for the character, but still, after 3 movies, I don't think James Kirk knows who he is. The writers are aware of this, and I am starting to believe, when he figures it out, when he stops reflecting whatever he is facing, and has a consistent character, that's when the movie franchise will end. However, the acting, this first act, leaves A LOT to be desired, and the scenes in the first 20 minutes felt stilted, contrived. JJ Abrams may have made Star Trek, Star Wars, but I believed every word his characters said. This version, I didn't. When he's offered the Vice-Admiral position, I knew he would turn it down. It was very predictable. James T. Kirk will find his way out there, and return not needing a desk position.

He's the kid on the edge of the canyon, throwing caution to the wind, to have a good time. That's the character. I want so badly for him to find purpose, and these movies seem bent on keeping him superficial. Not a single alien slept with, by the way. Great.

I thought it was clever that both Kirk and Spock tried to leave the Enterprise, they incorporated Leonard Nimoy's death into Star Trek, and improved the relationship with Bones and Spock. The contentious nature between the characters in the first two films, not there in this one. I liked the way they made Sulu gay. It's not the "gay moment" in Star Trek, it's actually a character moment for Kirk, that he sees Demora and his lover, and sees fulfillment, where he has none. The movie didn't stop telling its story to have a gay character moment, and that was EXACTLY what I wanted.

The action scenes were hard to follow. Still, the death of the villian, isn't by Kirk's hand, he is killed by his own device. The swarm is killed by music, not by a phaser. It's Star Trek, again. That's the purist in me.

Was it perfect? No. Was it what I expected? Maybe. Was it enjoyable? Yes. I didn't feel like sulking or going into a vicious diatribe about how Star Trek is dead, when I left the movie theater. I would put this in the middle-of-the-pack of Star Trek films, but I would also rank it higher than "Into Darkness." After seeing this film, I look forward to the next.

I was expecting not to like his movie, but I ended up loving it. The Enterprise felt like a real home and the Yorktown was awesome. Spock's picture of the crew at the end had me tearing up. This is the Star Trek that I've been craving over the last 20 years.

Another question just popped up in my head. Jaylah hid the USS Franklin with her holographic cloaking device, so that Krall wouldn't find it. But Krall had to know where the Franklin was anyway, why wouldn't he remember where he left his ship?
Well there were those other three escapees. I guess Krall's crew didn't' care about them as long as they didn't pose a significant threat. Also, Krall probably stripped the Franklin of all useful components before abandoning it.
How much time do you think passed between the NCC-1701-A being built and then being launched?
Probably before the end of the year 2263. I bet the Enterprise-A's construction was fast-tracked after the heroism of the Enterprise crew.

Just back from it and I loved, loved, loved it.

This to me was Star Trek and so much more so than the previous two films which I did also enjoy. But this was more Star Trek. For me it was summed up in the scene where they are trying to figure out how to destroy the swarm and everyone pitched in ideas and expanded upon them to reach the solution. This is what Star Trek is about - everyone working together.

There were so many great lines and moments in it too. Some of my favourites:
  • Kirk in his log saying how the missions have started to feel episodic
  • Kirk commenting on his shirt being torn again
  • Spock looking at the photo of the original cast
I was surprised about how much screen time Scotty had since Pegg said it would be reduced this time around but he seemed to have quite a presence in the film.

Pegg, Jung and Lin did a great job with this film.

I absolutely loved it too. Did anyone else catch the NX-01 Shuttle Pods in Captain Edison's little celebration video? :p

A for me. Personal favourite of the reboot films, and probably in my top 5 Trek films. Only misses A+ for inevitable pacing issues (lags a little in middle, but not as badly as some other current films) and under-developed antagonist (though I think Krall had a lot of potential).

This is the reboot Trek film with heart we've been waiting for. And I saw it with a large audience of children, teens and adults/parents - so possibly a cross-section of Trek fans and newcomers - who all equally seemed to enjoy it. There's some truly great crowd-pleasing laughs and moments :)

I started losing track of all the different multiple uniform/costume changes :).

But hey, it's Trek. They were all fun. And I just went: meh, meta... (Kirk and Paris' end scene costumes looked distinctly Bajoran ;))

I just enjoyed that they seemed to be enjoying...

Saw it this morning and really enjoyed it. I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was a really fun experience. I liked all the little throw backs to TOS. I'd give it an A.

I saw it in IMAX 3D as well but I don't feel that it added anything. Or maybe I'm just getting used to 3D to the point where it seems normal.

Meh, it was a typical and formulaic super hero action movie from 2016. If you're into that thing it was pretty good - if you're not it's "meh."
