Those aliens at the beginning looked like living statues at first and I thought that was pretty cool.

I understand people's complaints about Krall, but I thought he was at least the best villain since First Contact. He's genuinely menacing. He's physicaly imposing. I like the way he talks and lurches around.

His motivations make more sense than Nero, and they can be looked at in an allegorical sense as well.

Good stuff! I gave it a B+. I think it was the best JJTrek - clearly better than STID and somewhat better than the first one. What I really liked was how it was given a chance to breathe, especially in the beginning, but in the middle as well. The crew actually talked about stuff that wasn’t just some sort of plot device to come up later on, and the introduction of Yorktown was just beautiful.

Another thing I liked was how the years (here in real life…) have turned the crew into grown-ups. Chris Pine especially has gone from brat to believable captain. His performance here was definitely his best in the three movies. Karl Urban was great, as well, and… well, so were the others. I hope we'll see more of Jaylah!

I stayed well clear of anything remotely spoiler-ish, so Krall’s past came as a surprise to me. Still, I thought during the movie that the reasons for his actions were something bigger, more complex or politically driven, even, than just I-want-revenge-because-you-treated-me-poorly-and-btw-I’m-also-insane. Idris Elba was great, though, and the slight disappointment for yet another weak(ish) villain only came as an afterthought once I got home from the movies.

Glad I saw the movie last night. They're already showing TV spots that reveal too much about Krall.

I need a little memory refresh on something.
At the end during Kirk's birthday party, we see Keenser walk by with a tiny alien wearing a uniform shirt. I think Kirk calls him Kevin and says something about his pants? Anyone remember that?

"Kevin, still not wearing pants?"

The line was clearer in the IMAX 3D version, or I totally missed it in my two regular screen viewings.

So funny. And yes, it's one of the aliens from the earlier mission.

Another question just popped up in my head. Jaylah hid the USS Franklin with her holographic cloaking device, so that Krall wouldn't find it. But Krall had to know where the Franklin was anyway, why wouldn't he remember where he left his ship?

Saw the new Star Trek movie and it was really good and how they pay tribute to leonard nimoy was beautiful and the credits was nice to them both. I loved the bit with the necklace and them saying about a tracking device

The only thing that kinda threw me off a bit during the movie was after Kirk and Chekov got out of their escape pods on the planet, they were suddenly wearing a different uniform. I was so bothered by this...lol.. Did they change clothes in the escape pod? They were clearly wearing the standard starfleet uniform when they were evacuating the ship and showing going into the pod wearing said uniform. They changed uniforms the moment they stepped out onto the planet.... I was like "wtf"...lol.. Anyone else noticed this inconsistency?
