I have watched Enterprise and he still came across to me like a "typical mustache stroking villain". I still don't think his turn from good guy to totally bad guy was really plausible.

By the way do we still have to use spoiler tags in this thread? I haven't in previous posts here and I thought that was ok?

Edison felt screwed when the MACO's were disbanded and integrated into the new Federation Starfleet. He then watched his crew die leaving only three survivors...during which he felt abandoned by the Federation. He used/took the life-extending technology on the planet to extend his life...by taking the life force of other people, changing his appearance. He obviously also went insane.

She was referred to as "Commodore Paris", so Kirk clearly would have outranked her. I don't think that Commodore Paris would have stayed on the Yorktown base, she would probably have moved on to take another command somewhere else.

Why Kirk was offered a promotion to Vice Admiral instead of Commodore ... I have no idea!

Early in the film Commodore Paris refers to Kirk's "application" to be a Vice-Admiral. Clearly he applied for the position. Prime Universe Kirk was also a Vice-Admiral before returning to Captain.

If Kirk had become a Vice-Admiral assigned to Yorktown he would then outrank Commodore Paris, she would be his First Officer on Yorktown or she would have been transferred.

One question comes to mind...when Kirk and Edison are fighting at the end of the movie in the tube why didn't they just beam Edison to the brig and then beam Kirk to safety after he ejects the weapon into space?

I think they got things like rank and position confused in that part of the movie. Can one really apply for a promotion to Vice Admiral? He could have applied for the position as Commander of the Yorktown base, but that wouldn't have necessarily equaled a promotion to Vice Admiral!

Just got home after seeing it. SO GOOD. A thrilling two hours and I cannot wait for more! Will write more when a I've had time to process it.

Only 10 people in the theatre with me and Mum. I hope it was a bit more packed for everyone else's showings!

About 20 people in my theater ... but it was 2 o'clock in the afternoon and it was in english, I guess most people here will see the german version.

Just back from seeing an afternoon show. Overall I liked it but I will need to have a think about it to decide how much I liked it.

But Jaylah was probably the best thing in it. And nice to see lots of classic grumpy Doctor McCoy lines.

I liked the nice little Krall twist that made him a more interesting character.

Saw an 11pm 3D showing last night, going again tonight to see it on a Standard screen at a Movie Tavern. I wanted to see it a couple more times in between that, too!

I give this one an A+, all the way. This one ranks up there with 2009 and TUC as my favorites of the Trek movies quite easily, with this one probably being the best of the three new ones.

The humor was right in line with TOS, visuals were incredible, especially with scenes that took place on Yorktown and the Franklin facing off against the swarm.

A couple parts had me with tears in my eyes, because they happened at the right moments, and had a good emotional punch.

The characters have good things to do, and not given those things to do just for the sake of it. It fits them and their abilities completely.

This one is a clear winner, and I'm truly hoping it will be one of the bigger movies for this summer overall.

I need a little memory refresh on something.

At the end during Kirk's birthday party, we see Keenser walk by with a tiny alien wearing a uniform shirt. I think Kirk calls him Kevin and says something about his pants? Anyone remember that?

Wasn't that one of the aliens that got beamed aboard during the opening scene? I must have missed Kirk's line calling him Kevin, though.
