Star Wars Rebels Season Two (spoilers)

If memory serves, when the series first started they were planning around four seasons, (makes sense since that would put it about a year prior to ANH) then transitioning to a Post-OT series.
Pretty sure that was just another rumour (read: made up by someone who has no real clue) at the time. Unless of course you can recall if there was an official or at least credible source for that?

Well from the Rogue One trailer, I can already see some things they can use for Rebels to tie in without crossing over entirely. Ghost crew eventually finds out there is something out there leading to the mission in Rogue One. Plus bringing the Rebel and Imperial tech up to Rogue One and A New Hope levels.

Than a few episodes that deal with what happens after Yavin would be interesting...for season four.

I still would like to see the formation of the Alliance in Rebels prior to Rogue One.

^Don't really see much of a technological gap to warrant addressing.

I'm not 100% clear on the exact timing, but I gather that as of season 2, Rebels is still about 3 years out from ANH and one assumes Rogue One leads almost straight into it.
So the idea that it took them two plus years from hearing about a "weapons test" to actually doing something about it doesn't feel right.

That said, the Geonosis episode shows that they know *something* big is going on, but no idea what, so there's already something of a connection there.

There has been as assumed time jump, partially so they can redo Erza's character model to make him older like they did with Ahsoka, but also to get the story closer to Rogue One.

They might not do that and instead do things around Rogue One later. We'll find out when they talk about Season Three at Celebration London.

I thought I read five seasons, to possibly tie into where A New Hope began, which I think would kind of make sense -- it's been hinted something big is coming (I think that's the Deathstar) and we've already seen Leia and she's already doing rebel acts. I think it'll be no surprise that the rebels of this show will help Leia in the process to get the Deathstar plans; not up to the end -- they'll get tied up with something that will lead to the final battles.

By the way -- can I get some help from Star Wars fans way, way more knowledgable than me? Can anybody name some of the single-pilot fighters Jedi would have used during the Clone Wars?

From what I can tell, everywhere that's said that is just speculating and not quoting an authoritative source. AFAIK nobody has officially said how long they plan to run Rebels for or when the cut-off point will be in relation to the movies.
I could easily see them jumping clear over ANH and with a time-jump or two end the show on Hoth or something. But again, that's pure speculation.

You know, there's this thing called a wiki.... ;)

Thanks for the help. :-)

As for the source, at the time I wasn't even finished with season two and I wasn't really paying attention. Somebody linked to it -- can't say now where or how official it was.

On Rebels Recon Dave Filoni said there's a major event coming in Season Three the fans have been waiting for. What do you think it is? Maul vs. Vader? The Rebels stealing the Death Star plans?

IIRC he said it was a major event that die-hard fans have been wanting to see for a long time.
My first thought was an appearance by Kenobi. I assume he's referring to something mentioned but not depicted in the OT and with the whole "steal the Death Star plans" thing being covered in 'Rogue One', I can't think what else would be significant enough. Other things that came to mind were the Dantooine base or a more substantive visit to Alderaan but those don't seem *big* enough to me.

I don't think it'll be Vader vs. Maul just yet. Seems a little too soon after Vader vs. Ahsoka IMO. Plus it makes more sense in my mind that if Maul is going to be taken out prior to ANH, it'll be at the hands of Ezra and *that* will be his fall to the dark side.

Looking beyond the movies; the introduction of Thrawn and/or Mara Jade would be pretty major *and* something a certain portion of fans have wanted for a while. Some sort of follow-up to Mortis could also be a possibility. The return of Barris Offee as the new Grand Inquisitor? The Battle of Taanab? Boba Fett? I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Thrawn would be something and if would give some weight behind the supposed Grand Admiral shown in the Rogue One trailer.

Especially if Thrawn in not yet a Grand Admiral, and whoever it is in Rogue One is killed, leading to Thrawn's promotion to Grand Admiral.

Yeah, it was Nika Futterman. Though the part was only credited as "Presence", I can't help but wonder if that was meant to be the voice of Darth Traya. Because: Malachor.

Wouldn't it be more interesting if it were Meetra Surik who built the station, considering Malachor survives only if she replaces Traya as the (as far as they knew) Dark Lord?

Here's a guess: Boba Fett will appear, probably multiple times. Sabine joked a few episodes ago she wished she had a jetpack, something we know Boba Fett has (maybe he'll loose one to her in a battle). further more we know the Emprie hires mercinaries, as they did with Boba Fett. Knowing that the rebels are getting way out of hand for the Empire's liking and that they've now taken out four Inquisitors, I speculate the Empire will try out a mercinary named Boba Fett.

Apparently Filloni has actually already written up the story behind that temple and what happened there, including the name of the Sith Lord who's name we heard. Can't really use Meetra since it's not a Sith name. Hell, it's not even a name she had in the actual game, it was always just "The Exile" and even if you take the dark side ending, it's not like there's any material to draw on since all subsequent media presumes the light side ending was the "official" one.

I only suggested Traya because 1) she's a female Sith Lord and 2) already has an in-built association to that place. Or at least the version of it that appeared in 'KotOR II'. What we saw was clearly very much it's own thing.

Of course it's just as likely that Filloni came up with an entirely new name. No reason *everything* must be mined from the old EU.

I'm sure he will sooner or later, but I doubt that is the big reveal that's being promised. We already saw a fair bit of Boba in TCW and his inclusion in Rebels has always seemed inevitable.

If they do I just hope they ditch the whole "his rank is unusual because the Emperor is racist". That and "the Empire doesn't hire women" were some of my least favourite concepts from the EU. I'm glad there's been little hint of it so far, beyond a certain snobbery and disdain towards specific species on the basis that they're considered disloyal (Wookies, Lasat etc.)

Which considering it was an explanation for why there aren't any aliens in the Empire even though the Rebellion was equally alien less until Return of the Jedi, came off as a tad convoluted.

It was an explanation for why all of the dozen or so Imperials who's faces we saw in the original movies were all human. It's a big galaxy with an Imperial military probably in the trillions. What little we saw could hardly be considered representative. In short, it was an answer to a question that didn't need asking.

It's just a very lazy way to make the Empire seem evil by drawing comparisons to the axis powers. As if the Imperial Japanese style uniforms, fascist architecture, the black, white & red pallet and the dictator who practically radiated evil out of every pour wasn't enough.

And you're right of course that the Alliance wasn't shown to have non-humans (except Chewie) until literally the last hour or so of the trilogy.

It would certainly be cool to see Boba Fett on Rebels, but I don't think that's exactly a major event fans have been clamoring for for years. Thrawn or Mara sounds a lot more appropriate.

My guess is Dantooine.
