Star Wars Rebels Season Two (spoilers)

I kinda love that Ezra's new lightsaber is green, for some reason. He sure sprouted, too. I wonder how much time will have passed between this season and the last.

I don't like Ezra's new look. I miss the longer hair. Also, he looks like he's 10 years older. Aside from that, cool!

We get a glimpse of the new season changes instead of staying in one place like most cartoons do.

Ezra is now the lead since Kanan is blind now which is an interesting change of things.

It feels like a live action series in someways.

They did the same thing with Clone Wars, after the first two seasons all the main characters eventually got a full overhaul. Apparently this is partly for technical reasons as they improve the animation rig they pretty much need to periodically rebuild the hero models anyway. Another part is I'm sure to do with toy sales, but since that's what pays for the show and it works organically, I'm fine with it.

As for Ezra, I don't think his change is any more dramatic than Ahsoka's when she went from 14 to 16 mid-way through TCW. It's always going to seem sudden when they switch things up because these are characters that have to be built, not actors who will grown and change of their own accord. One imagines it would be unfeasible to slightly alter a character's appearances every episode or so to simulate natural growth, so we just have to squint and pretend it's more or less seamless.

I wish they'd update Hondo's look. He looked so much better in Clone Wars.

I think that's the point though. During the Clone Wars he was a pirate king and war profiteer, but now under the Empire he's been reduced to a washed up, two-bit conman. All he has left are his wits, charm and greed.

The Clone Wars version of Hondo is certainly cooler, but I like that they evolved his character in an interesting way that makes sense. One imagines after the War the Empire cracked down hard on organised criminal groups like the Pykes, Black Sun and maybe to a degree the Hutts. The latter I suspect cut a deal with the Empire that allows them to operate on the outer rim without interference in exchange for some form of tribute.
It would stop the fringe worlds from banding together and ensures the Hutts with police their own territory, preventing any other groups gaining undue power.

It does make it more palatable to think of it in those terms.

Maybe it's a quick growth spurt.

When I was 16 (almost 17), I went from around 5' 6 to 5' 8 in just a few months, during the summer after finishing high school.

^Yeah, one of my nieces went from being a head shorter than me to half a head taller over the course of a year. Kids in their mid-teens can really shoot up fast.

Of possible relevance: Ezra is no longer living on the street and as such is probably much better fed since joining the Ghost crew. ;)

I really like the new look for Ezra. It's nice to see them actually letting the characters age and change as the seasons go on.
I definitely prefer that to something like The Simpsons where nobody has aged in 27 years.

^Apples and oranges. Shows like the Simpsons exist purely through the characters and situations in a world that revolved entirely around them. 'Rebels' exists with it's characters in a larger world that doesn't revolve around them, but in which they (temporary) play a role. Eventually they'll all age and die (or just die, perhaps) and the world will go on without them.
If the Simpsons die, the show and it's world is over. Some might say that's past due, but I haven't watched an episode on over a decade so I really can't say.

Anyway, not to do with Rebels specifically, but the Ahsoka panel and after panel interview is up.

Love the stuff about Ahsoka's un-finished arcs from TCW. I still have some hope that one day they'll go back an finish these as straight to digital movies of something. I know that probably won't happen any time soon because they crew are busy with Rebels for the foreseeable future, but I think it's telling that while they wasted no time finding a home for the other Maul arc in the comics and the two Ventress arcs in the 'Dark Disciple' novel, they've been very hands off with the Ahsoka material. Indeed, the Ahsoka book they're publishing covers the time *after* the Siege of Mandalore and Order 66, none of which was covered in those arcs.

Love how Filloni got Eckstein tearing up *twice*. The diabolical monster. ;)

I only heard about all of this through IGN's report about the panel, so I don't know exactly what was said, but I thought it was interesting that Filoni specifically said there was stuff he didn't want to talk about, and that all of the stuff will be canon even though we didn't see it. Both of those comments made me think that they have some plans for at least some of their unused Ahsoka Clone Wars material.

Rebels panel in progress:

Nice that they've remained true to the original EU concept.

Oh, one more thing...
Wedge Antilles confirmed for Season 3
