Windows 10....one year later....disscussion, thoughts.

Ah, good, you still have a lot of wiggle room. I had a 500GB HDD with my old system, and 436 GB were in use. I was feeling the squeeze on that one.

Aw, that's plenty:D Our IT staff put some kind of antivirus and software updating program on the work computers at one point. Ok, we were starting off from a hard drive half that size, but because of the way it was sorting out updates for everything, one of my colleagues was left with 1mb free:D (I think we had started on Win7 by that time)
They've since binned that update software thankfully.

Now THAT is a close shave! :D

Apparently, it was creating lots of CAB files (and it's been a while since I've looked at any of those) and while it was doing that, the log file got corrupted and it didn't know which the correct file was. (After looking, the software was called BigFix and was a sort of autopatching software) Once they deleted those, we got up to a slightly more reasonable figure. Nowadays, I still have a 250gb HD on my work laptop, but about 200gb is free as all the files (and some of the programs) are server side.

There's talk about us going to Win10 but so far, it's been a very limited release. When it does happen, I'm fairly certain some of the software I use will have it's issues. Fortunately, most of that software is being retired, but there is one that they've never got round to doing:(

Love it. Installed with no issues and runs like a dream. Turned off all the data-collecting shit I don't need, and programs like Cortana. No problems with drivers, graphic card or updates. The only thing I had to do was change Start menu back to Classic shell. Don't like the tile look :)

I suppose I could get used to the official start menu (and will need to one we go Ten at work), but I've had classic shell since I got this machine (with win8 preinstalled) and it is a nice thing to have:)

Windows can be so stupid sometimes. I have to fix my task bar as it's once again screwed up. This time my 'internet connections' icon went from showing to only showing it as connecting to now not even showing at all. :censored:  :brickwall: So now onto finding the fix I have for it on my laptop.

Does Windows 10 run into this issue? Vista and 7 seem to every so often.

I haven't had to do this for 10 yet, but I recall doing it for 7 and Vista a bunch of times.

Well that's good. Yea you wonder why this kept on happening on them. It's annoying to say the least. When it first happened to me, I thought I had a virus on my laptop.

This is what I've been using to help. Thank god for it or I'd be up a proverbial creek .

Well that didn't work. It cleared it and showed up normally, but it said for me to restart my laptop so it can rebuild. I did that, and ended up with the same mess as before. :brickwall: It's as if what they were going from cache wise is corrupted some how.

Ugh.

So now onto finding out how to edit my registry to try to fix this.

Found one thing, but it's for Vista. Dammit.

This is annoying. They say how to turn it back on, but when I try to it's greyed out. And I have it set to be on. WTH Windows.

Turns out I had to completely shut my laptop off to get it to load correctly. So saying to reset it is a bit of a misnomer.

----------------------------

On a separate note, I got The Witcher: Enhanced Edition as a gift from a friend via Steam today and I was wondering if anyone else has it via Windows 10. I've heard of some issues with it via installing and such. Wanted to see if anyone else has run into issues with it and what they've done to fix them.

Also, came across this list of games that are compatible with it.

OK does anyone know when the update to windows 10 drops for phones?

I have a Lumia 520 and a 640 and both still have Windows Phone 8.1

I love the Windows phone, but yes, @sojourner is right, the Windows phone platform is essentially dead. I know that my Windows 8.1 phone might as well not exist to Microsoft. There's little to no support, there are no apps in the Windows store like there are for Android and Apple phones, and Microsoft seems more determined to win over Android and iPhone users rather than shore up its own base. Seriously, Windows 10 works better with my mom's Android phone than it does my Windows 8.1 phone.

Oddly there is a windows phone update to Windows 10 but you have to find it in some cases and it doesn't get found by the automatic updater that is part of the phone. I find that odd.

I did try it last night but it seemed a bit buggy so reverted back to 8.1 I thought maybe I had done something wrong.

I have a Nokia Lumia 520, which was promised Windows 10. Early this year Microsoft backed out on that promise, and now my Nokia will not receive the Windows 10 update. In fact, a LOT of phones that can easily handle Windows 10 have been denied the upgrade. While I love my Windows phone, I can honestly say my next phone will be an Android phone.

Well I love my phone as it is and 8.1 works perfectly so I'm really not bothered to update again unless it's forced. I like android but I like Windows more.

Well I do, too, when my Windows 8.1 phone integrates properly into Windows 10, which isn't often.
