Where is your confidence level now with ST:Dis?

Looking forward to it. I want to get back to the prime universe. Although once we get a definitive release date I'm going to have to present my case to the wife for dropping sky and getting Netflix

I have little confidence. Nothing I have heard about the show has excited me. The time period is boring for me, the ship I have seen looks like trash and none of the actors excite me. The show has been delayed and changing the show runner before it airs does not install confidence in me. I myself have no interest in CBS all access or subscribing to it for one show. It seems like a money grab to promote CBS all-access where they believe Star Trek fans will pay anything to see Star Trek. I also think this will limit the shows popularity and most people will never hear of it. My biggest concern is I have no confidence in CBS for producing a show other than a CIS or reality show so normally I would expect them to cancel the show during season 2 or 3 no matter how good the show was.

However, since it appears Netflix and the all access model are offsetting the costs of producing the show maybe CBS won't cancel it right out of the gate. So that gives me hope. I also expect CBS to try to maximize profits so my prediction is they will rerun the show on regular TV and/or American Netflix a couple of months after it premiers on CBS All Access and allow the show to reach a larger audience.

So I won't be watching the show unless it comes on Netflix or regular/cable TV. There is enough other good sci-fi stuff on TV for me to watch and Star Trek as a brand has let me down so much with the new movies that honestly I couldn't care less about it anymore. Maybe this new show will blow me out of the water and bring Trek back to what I liked about it in the past but I doubt it.

I like that Netflix is airing the show worldwide the day after it airs in America...

That's it because I haven't heard anything or seen anything that makes me excited about this project. To be fair, I don't know of too much that I hate apart from the 1st look we saw of the ship. I just keep getting the picture that the production of this has been a mess.

I'm always excited and optimistic for any new Star Trek project, going all the way back to the TOS films and TNG. As a fan, I don't understand how you can be anything but (but there are CERTAINLY factions that disagree).

That said, the actual judgement is made after I've seen enough to have a well-considered opinion.

I'll give it 3 episodes. The two part pilot and the third episode to catch my attention. but i'll probably watch it regardless because i haven't had a good Scifi show to watch since Stargate went off the air 5 nearly 6 years ago. (2011)

I'm going to withhold any judgement until I have seen the pilot. I remember well when TNG came on. To me who had watched TOS it seemed so different and I had no idea where they were going with the show, so I just gave it time.

The Star Wars people have it so much easier to get it 'right' - there's only one original trilogy to match up to whereas Star Trek has several quite different shows. :)

All Disney has to do is recreate the look and feel of the originals and have a Death Star destroyed in the process. Volia!
All we fans of Star Trek have to do is give it time and watch (if bearable at all) and hope it will come into its own for which there's no guaranty - right?

Beyond that, they don't have to redesign the look of the universe every five to ten years to keep it from looking like it is falling behind the real world.

You mean in Rogue One the Star Destroyers and X-wings look exactly like they did in 1977? They didn't redesign them or update them at all? Imagine that!

When they announced a new Star Trek series, I was hoping for some things, which are not happening. So I am not particular optimistic right now. But I won't decry the series, before I have a chance to watch it. Maybe it will still be good.

Tells you something about the original productions that they don't date the way old TV does.

I was very excited when they announced that they were making a new show. When they announced it was going to be a prequel I was much less excited. I was happy when Fuller came on board. Less happy when he left. I have really liked the casting announcements. I have had a lots of ups and downs (as many of you have) but I very much look forward to seeing the final product in May!

Just north of neutral into the zone of mild optimism. Fuller's departure hasn't really altered my calculus on this, Meyers remains afterall.

I only really watch TV haphazardly so I don't know about the modern actors bar the big names. So I don't know what to expect from that angle. I know Yeoh of course maybe she'll do well.

I didn't like the concept they were circulating for the ship. But they'll probably refine that. If it's still ugly it's a minus point but not a deal breaker.

I don't mind if the "Klingons" are featured. The Klingons always sound corny when talking about them but their actual portrayal is something I've enjoyed to date. So that doesn't bother me.

Overall, It just comes down to that if I like it, I'll watch it. If I don't, I'll step aside from it. That's all there is to it.

Exactly. Let us give a chance to ST: Discovery (even if I'm not fond of the idea of prequel). :)

Oh, and I don't know why, but I have the strange feeling that Brannon Braga is going to, eventually, join the team, now that "Salem" lives its last weeks/months (?) and that it NOT a good news, especialy when I remember his work on Voyager from s4 to s7 (in spite of some good - but too rare - episodes)!
Sorry not to be one of his fans!

I was most excited when I thought it was premiering in January. I liked the winter start date cause I watch more TV in the winter. It's tough to gear down and gear up again but so far I like what I see. I also think the entire feel of the show will be different than we've ever seen.. Which is exciting. I know a lot of Trekkies want the trappings of the Cage with enterprise production style, but it won't be anything like that.
