If you want to do something on Enterprise, have Daniels show up and tell Pike (for whatever reason) he has to go back and save Trip. That in the original timeline he was supposed to survive, that it was a different engineer/maco that purged the plasma vent or whatever it was.
So you have Pike and La’an go back. Maybe a third like Pelia, M’Benga or Ortegas too.
hell, you could probably get everyone from Enterprise but Blalock to record something new for it. But even then, you might be able to get her to record something that goes over the intercom like Spiner did as Data for TATV.
It’s even simpler than trying to correct the timeline. Its like in “Trials and Tribble-ations” – a massive surge in chroniton radiation sends the crew back in time. Except this time, it’s a shuttle instead of a starship. And the crew take their roles.
Pike superimposed over Riker’s roles as a crewmen and MACO on the NX-01. And as he’d be a MACO, we can learn what those MACOs were doing and why they were slow to respond.
Una superimposed over Troi, which would be a deep cut for her to be on the NX-01, since Illyrian first contact involved Archer turning into a pirate.
Sam Kirk superimposed as Riker’s role as Chef, which would make for a nice reference to the idea that Shatner was supposed to play Chef, seeing how Shatner briefly played Sam Kirk in TOS.
Then have it be Daniels in Trip’s role in the final moments when he faces the Rigel pirates; we already know he sees Archer founding the Federation as critical to the timeline, so Daniels would do anything to make sure that happens. His self-sacrifice can even be partially motivated on making it up to Archer for not telling him about the personal losses he would face during the Romulan War.
Then the NX-01 crew use Daniels’s death to fake Trip’s death so that Trip could undertake a long term Section 31 mission to Romulus. Or even Romii, if you want a subtle TOS connection.
Then Ortegas and/or La’an and/or Pelia and/or Jenna Mitchell takes Trip away for his Section 31 mission on the Rigel pirates starship. They don’t even need to de-age Connor Trinneer here, as it’s a disguise. Let him go into a whole spiel of how the truth of the Romulans appearance would destroy the Federation, and irreparably damage Vulcan’s diplomatic standing with the rest of the quadrant at this point in history, and the Romulans will be the ones that have to reveal themselves someday in the future. Continuity would be followed, especially if La’an, Ortegas, Pelia or Jenna end up working for Starfleet Intelligence. Or die in the following episode, but w/e.
And since new scenes would be filmed, they could probably work in cameos from Soval, T’Pau and Solkar (the guy Cochrane meet in FC) at the Charter signing and meet Spock. I’m not worried about Soval and T’Pau looking older either; the war was stressful for them like the Civil War was for Lincoln.
I wonder if they could get Zachary Quinto to play Spock’s grandfather Skon, since he’s supposed to be alive in this period and was supposed to become the new Vulcan Ambassador in the Star Trek: The Beginning script. Plus Quinto’s done tv before. Spock could just say he’s one of Skon cousins.
As for the rest of the cast:
Scott Bakula could record a few lines for his speech that is heard through the auditorium. Or a couple more captain’s logs. Seems like a neat way to sneak in a few S5 ideas or other undeveloped ENT ideas and canonize them.
Dominic Keating and John Billingsley could record a few lines over the intercom. Or some top secret logs related to Trip’s fake death and his mission. Signed Admiral Reed and Surgeon General Phlox.
I’m sure Anthony Montgomery and Linda Park would be down to record either a department starlog or a personal log, seeing as how they never got to do either on the show during its entire run. I wonder if they’ll write off their ranks as being junior lieutenants, or if they’ll CGI in an extra pip.
Jeffrey Combs might be down as well, seeing as he never got his chance to record a log with Shran. He’s already doing voice recordings as AGIMUS.
I’m sure even Jolene Blalock would be open to a voice recording if she doesn’t have to actively participate otherwise.
Brent Spiner could do a voice recording of some sort reprising Arik Soong, mirroring his cameo as Data.
Maybe Alfre Woodard could reprise her role as Lily Sloane and be a VIP at the event, with her story paralleling Archer at the christening of the USS Enterprise in 2245
While we’re at it, I wonder if Idris Elba would be down as well and record a log for Balthazar Edison. Or even appearing in the episode.
It sounds more like a tv movie, but this could be a very, very special episode if done right. It would even be fitting to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. nudgenudgewinkwink.
