What is your favorite final season?

Frasier really turned things around and went out with style.

Avatar: The Last Airbender's final season was a terrific conclusion, for the most part (though not as unified as the preceding one).

The Wire had a season that was a great "final season," but not a great season, if that makes any sense.

I rather enjoyed the final season of Battlestar Galactica. It was the most focused and satisfying the series had been since the first season for me. But I've only seen it once, so who knows if it would hold up to further scrutiny.

The final season of Enterprise was the best season of the series, although it didn't have as much finality as I would have liked from it, since cancellation wasn't assured until the very end (and the finale...well, I won't go there).

Farscape

Granted there was a lot of episodic stuff in this season, but I still loved it. Great way to conclude the series and Bad Timing was aptly named. Also, the We are Screwed storyline and finding out why Stark was in the Aurora Chair was a great great revelation.

TNG

I know it's not widely praised, but with episodes start started with a P, Dark Page, All Good Things..., Gambit, and some others, I enjoyed it very much, and the stuff connecting with DS9 was good too.

DS9

I'm not a fan of some of the final chapter like some are, but it was still a great undertaking and great end to the season. It also had some awesome stuff too at the beginning like the two part premiere, Inter Arma Enim Silint Leges, and Siege at AR-558.

I'll join the DS9 chorus. I had my doubts, the way they were flailing in the first half of S7, but then they really ratcheted it up in the last half. As long as you ignore the Ezri-Bashir-Worf love triangle from hell. And the paghwraith crap. And that awful final Bashir-O'Brien episode. And the illogic of how the war actually ended. Okay maybe DS9 wins by default. :rommie:

BSG's final season had some great elements (especially the Zarek-Gaeta mutiny, yowzah! and I loved the way Starbuck and Sam's stories concluded - unexpected, strange, gutsy and moving - and of course the final scenes of Adama and Roslin) but overall, the show really lost coherence after the first season or two and puttered to an unsatisfying and somewhat farcical conclusion.

ENT
wins the award for Show Most Improved in Its Final Season. Nice of them to finally bother making it worth watching after it's been de-facto cancelled.

ENT and DS9 probably had the most consistently good final seasons Trekwise. DS9's certainly has some major faults, and ENT is basically a fanwank fest, but hey, compare that to TNG (running out of steam), TOS (sort of an epic misfire) and VOY (...voyager), and they're looking pretty good.

I liked BSG's final season also, it was a step up from the meandering pointlessness that characterised a whole slab of the third season.

I dunno. As great as Firefly is, I think its final season was easily the worst one of the show. Now Charlie Jade, its final season was easily the best one in its entire run.

Oh hell yeah. This is the epitome of the classy exit, folks; Kelsey Grammer, Tennyson, and a speech. The show was still good in its final year though, also.

All my favorite shows had disappointing or terrible final seasons. B5 was really bad. Farscape had a bad first half. DS9 had a do nothing first half but a good second half and then a truly disappointing finale. The less said about X-Files the better. Buffy was just alright. Angel had a so-so first half... it'd probably be the winner by default.

Enterprise had a good final season but I liked the third season more. BSG started out very promising but then ended up wasting the second half of its season though I did love their finale (shockingly). SG1's last two years were very hohum.

Definitely not Battlestar. I'm surprised to see so many votes for it here

I was thinknig that myself, after the munity the show just fell apart and never went anywhere.

DS9 was good, TNG was horrible, MASH was good. I'm having trouble thinking of final seasons of shows.

Six Feet Under had a great finale season, but the show on a whole is amazing. West Wing last season was amazing besides the stuff with Toby... and the west wing parts...

Honestly it seems as though a lot of final seasons aren't the greatest when viewed in light of previous seasons. TNG, B5 and BSG had great finales, but the seasons leading up to them were very, very uneven. I did enjoy some of the episodes in The X-Files 9th season but there was a lot of DOA episodes as well and off course the finale itself was a stinker.

If Supernatural's 5th does end up being it's last that might have to take it, it's been pretty damn good so far this year. DS9 had a strong 7th season, but it was a step back from the previous 3 very strong seasons... Seinfeld's finale was a dud, but the 9th season had tons of great episodes. MST3k's 10th season was also very good.

I hope by the summer I'll be able to say Lost had a great final season.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The series ended so strongly that I can overlook some of the poorer episodes. I think that the last part of the second season was the best science fiction on television in 2009.

After watching Dexter's S4 finale, and under the assumption that they did what they did in that episode in order to set up a truly kick-ass S5 as the final season, I now predict that Dexter's final season will be not only the best in TV history, but the best that is possible under currently known laws of physics. :D

If you believe that then maybe you should read this interview were the writers admit they make it up as they go along and have nothing planned for a 5th (and not confirmed as final) season.

NuBSG. I can't vote for DS9's because, ambitious as it was, I feel like it failed on a lot of levels and I was disappointed overall. I'll always remember it as the season of baseball, Ezri wangst, and Dukat's full character assassination.

I'm trying to think of another show I watched most of that actually had a stellar final season. Coming up kinda empty. :(

My favorite is probably DS9. There were a lot of really satisfying closures to certain events and stories. I even liked the wacky red-eyed Dukat stuff.

Cosign on Frasier and Deadwood as well. Deadwood was frustrating from a closure standpoint, but it was a very good season and the show certainly went out in it's prime. I still can't believe we never even got to see the fire happen.
