Yeah, which means just three colors. Nothing's changed, although the rank pips are now silver for the first time since ENT.

Agreed. I don’t think there’s anything other than the three established colours. Slightly different shades (inevitably) but the basic system is the same.

The chrome / polished silver pips make sense as they are more visible in the new position. They’re slightly bigger than the old TNG collar pips and appear to have a slightly domed top. The pips and raised edge of the flag officer rank bars are also chrome/silver now but their background colour appears to be the same satin-finish dark grey/bronze as the background of the combadge. It’s not immediately obvious but in the close ups, of Adm Clancy in particular, it’s pretty obvious that the background is not black and is the same as her combadge. It’s consistent enough in several shots that I don’t think it’s a trick of the lighting.

The 2380s uniforms looks great.

I guess Starfleet just decided "you know we're never keeping the same basic uniform for 70 years like we did before" after the ol' red coat uniform that was from the 2270's to the 2350's.

I liked the uniforms well enough.

To be honest, by Picard's era, I had hoped they would have evolved to speedos and micro-bikinis, but that dream died with Gene Roddenberry. Now I just go with the flow.

Hmmm. I like these uniforms too -- and I like them better than the TNG Uniforms -- but I can't picture a design like this being thought of in 1989. OTOH, if it were introduced in the late-'90s instead of the FC Uniforms, I could see that.

It's funny you say that, because they're even closer to:

Which first appear in "The Game" in 1991, though arguably the PIC one is more an antecedent of the earlier crew neck version from "Allegiance" as that appears to follow divisional colours rather than all cadets wearing red ala the above and the latter Cadet Greys worn by Nog and Red Squad (pre-Valiant).

I see the 2385 Uniform as looking like a modification from the TNG Cadet Uniforms (just like the DS9/VOY Uniforms themselves were). So in my mind I'm thinking they would've had to have been thought up first.

But, overall, both new uniforms in PIC do a great job of looking like an outgrowth from what came before.

The 2399 uniforms look like updates of the Generations/Voyager/DS9 jumpsuits where as the 2385 uniforms look more like something you'd see in 2400+ or the actual Picard uniforms
