There seem to still be just three department colors with the grey and black being used by Admirals.

I guess Starfleet just decided "you know we're never keeping the same basic uniform for 70 years like we did before" after the ol' red coat uniform that was from the 2270's to the 2350's.
I bet that is changed if we ever return to that era.
I had some ideas about that when we thought DSC might be in the lost era.I bet that is changed if we ever return to that era.

Well, given the TMP duty uniforms, they were BOTH effectively wearing Pajamas already, so...Imagine how Kirk felt after waiting in Nogura's office wearing nothing but a smile.
Hmmm. I like these uniforms too -- and I like them better than the TNG Uniforms -- but I can't picture a design like this being thought of in 1989. OTOH, if it were introduced in the late-'90s instead of the FC Uniforms, I could see that.
It's funny you say that, because they're even closer to:

Which first appear in "The Game" in 1991, though arguably the PIC one is more an antecedent of the earlier crew neck version from "Allegiance" as that appears to follow divisional colours rather than all cadets wearing red ala the above and the latter Cadet Greys worn by Nog and Red Squad (pre-Valiant).
I hope to Rod they are.I bet that is changed if we ever return to that era.
