What do you do with your porn?

I just wanted to pop in and say that J. Allen, you have once again said things so well that I don't need to add anything except my agreement.

What do I do with it? I don't know but I usually end up feeling like this-

Re: What other uses for porn are there besides the obvious?

A lot of people here, and a lot of people out in the world downloads porn or buys/rents porn, or you know someone who does. What is its use for you? Why have a porn collection? What does everyone do with their porn!?!?

Are there other uses besides the obvious?

Nope, it is only for aiding in sexual arousal and climax. It does its job very well so it doesn't have to do anything else.

Well, I have books of artistic nudes for the same reason I have books of Hubble photographs, forest landscapes, barns and lighthouses. I appreciate beauty.

But surely, a book of artistic nudes isn't porn?

I mean--consider the following painting (Nymphes et Satyr by William Bouguereau):

William-Adolphe_Bouguereau_28182-2.jpg

That's got no less than seven naked women in it--but it's hardly porn: in fact, the original a very great work of art. I don't even consider it particularly erotic--although I'm sure it's no coincidence that the one nymph has the satyr by the horn. ;)

I suppose it's possible that some guys throughout history have used this painting as a masturbation aid--but that wasn't the artist's intention. Guys will use anything as a masturbation aid. I once saw an Irish movie called County Kilburn which included jokes about jerking off to pictures of the Virgin Mary.

It may sound odd to put it this way, but it seems to me that when it comes to defining "porn," authorial intention is decisive.

If there's any consistency to things going on in Misc. that image will be removed within ½ an hour and you'll get a friendly. -At least that's usually what happens when classic paintings where you can see a boob are posted. :rommie:

/.../pictures of the Virgin Mary.
A lot of (especially catholic) Jesus-imagery is also very hot, ifyouknowwhatImean...

Oh, what a drag. I just went a year without incurring a warning. :(

Not to mention Bernini's Ecstasy of Saint Teresa.

Bow-chicka-BOW-wow!

EDIT: Oh, man--that mention of Jesus imagery suddenly got me thinking about the Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross in a whole different light. Even I need brain soap after that. :scream:

Wow, I have never seen that painting before! Look at the way the light radiates from each woman, and the I love the contrast between the graceful femininity of the women and the darker, masculine grizzled satyr. It's a very beautiful painting, and like you, I appreciate beauty in it's fine form.

There you go--it even has the J. Allen stamp of approval. :techman:

If anyone's wondering, Bouguereau did some man-on-man stuff as well, such as Dante et Virgil en Enfer:

Well, "Porn" is a subjective label that's meant to be derogatory. There are many people who would define something like Nymphes et Satyr as Porn. And I'm sure the artist did have erotic intentions. But why not? Eroticism is as valid a subject for Art as anything else.

Nifty! Yet another thread in Misc devolves into the usual intolerant religious vs. the intolerant anti-religious discussion.

And I was hoping for a joke thread. :(

Just skip those posts and read the rest -clearly it is a collection of jokey comments!
