In the UK and lot are repurposed as defibrillator, or book shops stuff like that.
Same here. My first non-trivial visit to Canada, I had no reason to expect my "3 1/2 G" cell phone to instantly turn into a paperweight, the minute I crossed the border. And my Toronto hotel not only did not allow calls charged to the room; they didn't allow collect calls, either. And so while I was able to call home from train stations (if it was a service or crew-change stop), once I got to Toronto, I had to wander the streets looking for either a functioning pay phone (there weren't any), or an open convenience store that sold prepaid phone cards (harder than you might think).
But I definitely don't miss tobacco smoke. (The last time I was in a restaurant that had a smoking section, it was my first non-trivial visit to New Orleans, and the non-smoking section in the restaurant was a joke!) Nor do I miss tobacco ads.
And likewise, I don't miss orchestras and classical radio stations that treat film scores (or anything else written since about 1925 that uses tonality) as inherently worthless trash.
Our "local" classical music station does to a degree, only playing small selections here and there.
Any seasoned film score nerd knows Ennio Morricone's score to The Mission, particularly the track "Gabriel's Oboe". But some for baffling reason the host refereed to both the film and score as a "bit of a deep cut". Man, he doesn't know what a deep cut is -- I can name deep cuts just on the American side. And he failed to mention it was a rec-recording; a seasoned fan would have know that, but a newbie would not have. He also credited the "Hawaii Five-O" theme to the cover group and not Morton Stevens. Sad. they also get information wrong sometimes, leading to frustration in looking things up. A host got the title of this so messed up, I was searching for it online for like fifteen minutes before finally finding it:

Can’t remember if this was brought up earlier in the thread or not, but… having to do all your Christmas shopping in person in actual stores. For the last I-don’t-even-remember-how-many years, I’ve been doing almost all of my Christmas shopping online. Sure don’t miss the packed malls and driving around in circles looking for a parking space and all that.
I was reminded of this today when I had to go out to get a last-minute gift from a specialty shop, and online wasn’t really an option. I kinda resented it.

I try to miss it, but run into it when I go to the Costco once a week for my essentials, and all the people who shop for Christmas, who don't normally show up on morning weekdays, are there, in person. I'll park at the end of the lot, instead of trying to find a parking space up front, and take a shopping cart from the lot with me to the store. I still do all of my shopping in person. I used to work retail, and I would frequently see team members responsible for filling online orders and drive up standing around and talking to their friends instead of working. And when it nearly came time to deliver the items to the front of the store, they would deliberately skip those items and say they weren't in stock.Can’t remember if this was brought up earlier in the thread or not, but… having to do all your Christmas shopping in person in actual stores. Plus, your credit card number can get stolen no matter how safe and secure the site is.

Your credit card can technically be compromised in-store too.
My introvert self just prefers the at-home shopping experience, and I don't think that's likely to change.
