What are the Summer TV scifi shows?

I realized, in grading all of the "what survived the WGA Strike Hangover year of 08-09" game, I wasn't really focusing enough on Summer.

As some of you remember, back in the halcyon days of the late 1990's, "Summer" was when Scifi Channel ran its great shows, so they wouldn't run into competition.

Now Battlestar Galactica AND Stargate Atlantis are going to be over...they used to at least have some sort of overlap; now we're looking at a COLD START

I hear that casting was just in place for "Stargate: Universe" (Stargate 90210 ) but when will it air?

Warehouse 13 also sounds like another Flash Gordon/Painkiller Jane, but when does that air? And what of that "Revolution" show?

Besides Scifi, are the Big Five (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, CW) running ANYTHING new in summer?

This of course, does not include Cartoon Network....which is in the middle of a gigantic lull at the moment; Code Geass is great, but that runs out in May....as does the current batch of Bleach.......some fear that after this, Adult Swim's post-May block will just do away with anime altogether (ironic, given that Bleach just finished a LONG *filler* arc, and they're about to get to "actual story" again...)

And of course, I've fallen in love with Nicktoons Network's "Wolverine and the X-Men", and there's still like 20 more episodes of season 1 so that will carry us through August

but what else is going to PHYSICALLY BE ON TV in Summer, after the big BSG finale?

Sounding like a broken record here, but watch Chuck. It's better then sex and cocaine combined.

You are a thrall to their processed, mass-produced scifi from broadcast; I HATE Chuck and the only reason anyone notices it is because it has a lot of stunt casting. But wait for the 3rd season, when its lost "new show" status, and the honeymoon is over...

Chuck is very barely sci-fi and it's barely watchable.

There is nothing I can think of, Stargate 3 starts in October.

SGU premieres in October. Eureka will return for the remainder of s3 this summer...other than that, it looks like our dvd players will be working overtime this summer.

I only included Stargate in the list there because it was new: I've openly hated the series since SG-1 season 9 (and retroactively, season 8), and Atlantis I was iffy in on season 1 (I give everyone a free pass their first year) but then openly hated with a fiery passion since season 2 (they really phoned it in for seasons 2 and 3, and 4 and 5 were only marginally better)

On the whole, Stargate Atlantis was an insult.

Just as Voyager was an insult, but had enough redeeming qualities that while it was actually airing, we weren't willing to fully condemn it, but retroactively we openly talk about all of its problems. Then the real backlash came with Enterprise.

The point is with Voyager people were already saying "maybe we should give it a rest" but by Enterprise people KNEW it; similarly, some were saying during Atlantis "give it a rest" but Universe will make people KNOW its peaked.

Stargate was good when it was a Showtime series, and Scifi Channel just had to continue what they were doing; hard to mess that up (it took 4 years to start messing with it). but as ORIGINAL Scifi Channel series, I don't think the spinoffs were good at all.

I'm the furthest thing from a Stargate Fan. I think they bled it white.

I was never into it. I kept trying and trying to get into it but I never could. Don't get me wrong it had it's moments. Some episodes were enjoyable. I just found it very derivative at times and it borrowed too heavily from other shows.

If you ever have had sex I think you might being doing it wrong. :p

You're right. You're mom's ear shouldn't count.

Okay I did some checking, and it's a moot point: Chuck's season 2 finale is in April.

"Reaper" season 2, is also running from March through May, so its not a "summer show"

By the way, I define "summer" as starting June 1st, after May Sweeps are over. (of course BSG and some other shows end at the beginning of April)

Stargate Universe doesn't begin until October.

So there's...."Eureka season 3, part 2"......ugh. I've hated this show since the godawful pilot. And the "honeymoon period" of being a new show is over now.

Dollhouse season finale is May 13th, and Terminator SCC is April 10th.

So lets see...in terms of "June-July-August"......

...wow.

Okay, Okay:

Sci-Fi Channel

*Eureka season 3, half 2: 8 episodes have already aired; does it get 13 episodes per "season" like before or did they get picked up for 20? If not, that would mean only 5 episodes.

*Warehouse 13 : July 2009

*Revolution: apparently they're only trying out "Revolution" with a backdoor two hour pilot movie.....then again, so did "The Lost Room"

So.....I'm watching Wolverine and the X-Men....and the only other NEW stuff....is Eureka and Warehouse 13? on ANY channel?

And as for Adult Swim, all of their current anime runs out in May, and we have NO FRAKKING IDEA what they're running after that starting in June (there's no overlap; ALL of their current stuff ends in May)

wait......OH THANK GOD: Venture Bros season 4 premieres in June!!!!

They got 20 this year, instead of 13.

That confirms it then:

*Eureka Season 3, half 2 = 12 episodes
*Warehouse 13 = July
*Revolution = actually just a pilot 2 hour movie, so even if miraculously its good its not being produced

Still, again I ask: are the Big Five networks even running ANYTHING?

Of course, I always keep putting off "I'll watch the DVD in summer" for a lot of shows, notably Jericho, Heroes season 3, Fringe, and ALL of Lost. (I had a very busy year)

Ohhh, we've got BSG's "The Plan" (apparently a retroactive, RETROACTIVE, attempt to show that "the Cylon Plan was Cavil exacting petty revenge on Humanity, then spiteful revenge screwing with the Final Five who he brainwashed and dumped on the colonies"......damn you Jane Espenson.

And they're releasing "Caprica" 2 hour pilot movie....straight to DVD! The idea being that only the diehard loyal fans, who are worthless to them, will watch it.....then they can pick apart the major criticisms, and re-edit/re-shoot it by the time it "actually" airs next Spring!

But I predict this will blow up in their face; remember the whole complaint that they haven't adapted to the new reality, that Television now has like half of its "viewers" on iTunes, DVR, and *DVD*?

Do they seriously think that after all of the HYPE of the BSG *SERIES* Finale, people will just IGNORE the Caprica DVD, if its bad?

No...NOOOOOO.....I think the Caprica DVD release will actually be watched by a lot of people, and result in OVER SIX MONTHS of very negative criticism....to the point that it becomes public knowledge that "Caprica isn't worth it" (just as we complain about "Stargate 90210" as a common joke now).........and this will seriously affect the ratings.

Heck the only reason many of us kept watching during seasons 3 and 4 is because we were emotionally invested in the characters. Will people really stay on, for just bland new Espenson characters?

but I digresss......

I don't know about YOU guys, but that means I'm not watching ANYTHING on the Scifi Channel this summer......unless there are any among you that like Eureka? Or even if you DID, that STILL like it now that its stale even by its own standards? Warehouse 13? Yeah right.

So really, the only "new" stuff on for me this summer will be Wolverine and the X-Men, and VENTURE BROS SEASON 4!!!! .....but really, we have no idea what Adult Swim is airing in May, and they might (haha) might pick up some great new series or something.

****are the Big Five networks truly airing NOTHING?

I've noticed it because of the great acting, character interaction, and humorous, entertaining plots. My bad.

I haven't heard a thing about it for way too long. Got a recent link?

Ohhh, we've got BSG's "The Plan"
Might wanna spoiler code that stuff. Or are you assuming nobody will believe it could all be quite so lame? :rommie: I'm holding out a faint bit of hope myself...

I thought you had to be at least 13 to join the site, you should be ban for being under age.

And "So you think you can dance?" on Fox is great. ;)
