Watch The Exhilarating Opening Scene Of Star Trek: Discovery Season 3

One of the most common complaints against the show is that it’s too fast paced.

One of my major complaints about the show is that they never have enough story for the amount of episodes they are doing. Which leads to stuff like "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part I", where we spend an episode just watching the crew write letters for the majority of it.

Another common comment about the show I see is how story dense it is and how often the episodes require repeat viewings to catch it all. So this makes no sense to me.

RAMA

I was thinking it might just be the cat. Maybe cats are rare in the 32nd century or something and people will pay big bucks to have one.
I was wondering why no one was asking about whatever Booker took that belongs to itself... One of the scenes has a big monster type thing rearing up in front of Burnham and it looks like it might be after they crash on that planet. This is a stretch, but I was wondering if that was maybe a future version of a tardigrade? It doesn't look quite the same as Ripper at all, but I just wondered if it might be the writers tying back to the first season... Maybe the people on this planet noticed that tardigrades appear in their space and its related to them looking for ways to get out of system. For the record, I hope this is not the case and just a random connection that isn't there...

Then I was thinking it was the cat :)

I don’t know I’d call it lethargic, but it’s uneven. Remember the pointless two-part detour to the planet of noncorporeal beings who like to use yurts and stools?

My wife called it lethargic, I generally think the pacing is poor. They have hit a couple of home runs, but it is like digging through shit for a diamond.

That's most shows for me.

Not for me, which is why I get confused at all the love the live-action CBS shows get. Things like Westworld, Watchmen, Occupied (Norway), Babylon Berlin (Germany), The Man in the High Castle and others have really good pacing where each episode actually feels important to the greater narrative being told. But it is a mileage may vary type of situation.

But, it doesn't feel enjoyable. Like, I get why people don't like DSC or Picard but I know it gets better.

The rest feels very well done misery.

As you say, mileage will vary.

Aside from story arc issues, Discovery's biggest flaws (particularly in the first season, but also to some degree in the second - remember the flimsy blast door with a window?) seem to come from really bad coordination between the writers and the vfx/practical effects team.

Definitely some issues there, but I can’t fault the FX folks for the Pahvo filler, and I can’t imagine how they could have made the blast-door scenario work. That silliness came from the script.

IIRC the script called for humanoid aliens - which is why the Yurt existed - and they decided it wasn't working when they shot it and said "eff this, let's do CGI." Also, the episode was forced on the showrunners by CBS because they were upset the show hadn't had an away mission.

As for the blast door in Season 2, it was a contrivance regardless, but if the door had like five sections and an added CGI force field I could have suspended disbelief more.

Lethargic pacing? One of the most common complaints against the show is that it’s too fast paced. I guess you really can’t please everyone though. Different strokes different folks.

I like Discovery but it is too fast paced. They have modeled the pacing based on JJTrek movies. I prefer the pacing on Picard much more

Definitely. Best Trek show since DS9.

That's cool because I've heard a lot of mixed reviews / thoughts on this show. Seems to be like most Trek shows there's two camps of people "we love it" and "this isn't Star Trek" but on the whole I think people like it. I think I'll give it a try.

Hey What if the sphere is one of the beings but created V'Ger?

Yes, every Star Trek show gets mixed reviews, at least in the beginning. But if you are a trekkie you have to check them out and judge them yourself.

Not like that. I mean the level of tech used. Didn’t look anymore advanced.
If only Discovery looked TOS.
You couldn't make a show now with nobs and dials and most fans accept the change in tech level. What I would have liked though is if they took more of the style and lighting from TOS rather than the darkness and lensflares look
