USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

It's only unique feature is split nacelle pylons, otherwise it's just a combination of TOS and TMP Enterprise elements, and NX-01 textures.

Compare with the Kelvin universe Enterprises, which introduce new shapes and curves, change established colours etc or even Gabe Koerner's version, which brings in some harsher shapes and battleship-style hull details.
The Kelvin Connie was too far of a departure from the original.

This design looks like it could actually fit between Enterprise and TMP.

No, it really wasn't. It was recognizable to everyone as the USS Enterprise, but with a modern look.

But this is a "visual reboot". They're not fitting things inbetween established ships, they're replacing the established ships with something new.

I'm talking about Starfleet/Federation. Klingons are for another topic.
Nope, it's all visuals. If theyre willing to change the Klingons and their ships FAR more than the Kelvin movies did, why won't they change the Enterprise even as much? It makes no sense, although we are talking about a production where the people involved don't even know what they can or can't do, or why.

They know exactly what they can do.

Anyways the Klingons are Aliens, the more un-human they look the better.

I'm sad they didn't redesign the Vulcans.

Already established otherwise. Hopefully going into season two, things have improved in that regard.

The old Klingon ships looked plenty alien, IMHO. That said, I still don't get why they give us the most conservative Enterprise update imaginable (potato peeler pylons aside), but make such complete reboot changes in all other visuals.

Two non-lawyer artists are not proof.

CBS has come out and clarified it already.
It's proof the people who did the visuals had no idea the extents of what they could or couldn't do, or why. Ditto the writer who thought they can't use anything from *any* Trek movie because of the CBS/Paramount split. Their creativity was hamstrung because they weren't properly informed of how to do their job.

Pretty sure that writer meant the Kelvin Timeline movies.

And as for Eaves and Scott, they probably jumped to conclusions based on the criteria they were given.

Yeah, I get the desire for increased hull detailing and the like, but if the complaint is the design is too dated, I don't see how futzing around in the margins with things like the goofy shuttle bay lip, the random striping and the tacky saucer lights make the ship look "modern." Non-fans aren't even going to notice the difference.

I don't understand what's wrong with the lip. Doesn't look goofy to me.

Why would it be there? Shuttles don't need long landing strips. Discovery doesn't even have a similar lip. So what's the point?

Completely random change for change's sake.
