USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

If they were trying to stick closer to the Prime Universe, this wouldn't be a Klingon D7 cruiser:

I am amazed that the owners of Stargate haven't filed over how similar the new Birds of Prey are to the Death Gliders or the original BSG Cylon Raiders.

Stupid thing is in some cases the supposedly Klingon ships don't even look Klingon and in others cases they have more in common with the 24th century Negh'Var and Vorcha classes.

There is still the possibility we will see recognisable ships as there are 9 years before ToS but that's assuming the show lasts long enough to show them.

Ultimately there was no need to mess with the original basic designs at all beyond an understandable visual update as we got with the Starfleet ships, I would say the BoP from the films is almost as iconic as the Enterprise itself.

They would make even more money off the models and tech books if they used recognisable designs, if I were in charge of marketing I would be having a fit.

What exactly was the point of it all.

Aha! I knew I had seen those bent rectancles on either side of the top of the saucer in the last episode.

There's better stuff posted every day at www.scifi-meshes.com.

Wait, what are you saying? It sounds like you're saying you don't like this design, which would be news to, I think, everyone in this thread.

I think it looks a lot better than Kuhn's attempt, actually, in terms of profile and overall shape.

Compare with the Kelvin universe Enterprises, which introduce new shapes and curves, change established colours etc or even Gabe Koerner's version, which brings in some harsher shapes and battleship-style hull details.

Koerner's version was fine as a fan project but it would be terrible as an official version. It looks like someone made a hot rod out of the Enterprise. All sorts of stuff is sticking out of it. It doesn't look like the Federation built it.

But this is a "visual reboot". They're not fitting things inbetween established ships, they're replacing the established ships with something new.

Doesn't that nullify your complaint that it's too much of both designs?

Has anyone saved the pics? They don't appear to be available anymore.

I got the Hoover but not the bee.

Why would it be there? Shuttles don't need long landing strips.

Haven't I addressed this before? Star Trek V would like to have a word with you.

I want things to be done for logical reasons.

You do understand that these fictional ships are designed for no logical reason at all, right? I mean, they put some components there that have a purpose but as a whole the ship is just meant to look cool.

I do admit that I don't understand the redesign of the Klingon ships. They look absolutely nothing like the old ones.

The actual Klingons, I dig. I don't know why they changed them but I like the design in general. I just wish some of them had hair or beards. You know, for old times' sake.

No need to act so condescending. My point is that I can understand the need to modernize the design – add hull detailing, lower the profile, tweak the pylons – but at the same time, I think they ought to honor the original design and its designer. Adding a bunch of pointless detailing that won't be noticed by anyone but pre-existing fans does not do that, IMO.

The original Trek ships were successfully designed by Jefferies to suggest pretty specific functionality. They looked cool as a result.

The cool looking aspects of STD designs are points copied from better work - mostly, they're just confused and ugly kludges.

The best DSC starships are the Enterprise, Gagarin and T'Plana-Hath. Everything is else is on a sliding scale and Discovery herself is nowhere near the top of the list.

The Kelvin Timeline Klingons in STID looked so much better. I'd be so happy had they gone with something a lot more along those lines.

Really? I thought they were dreadful.

I try to use short, declarative sentences in criticism. I'm not sure why you're repeatedly having trouble following.

I guess sarcasm isn't your strong suit.

And by the way, when you use too short sentences you end up not being clear. In this case, however, I was commenting on your annoying tendency to repeat yourself by stating how much you dislike Discovery every time a new piece of information comes up. We know, Serveaux. We know. You can stop now. If you dislike the show so much, why not spend time away from threads devoted to it?

And you could also do worst than to not insult everyone who disagrees with you at every opportunity. Your opinion is not some form of objective standard. Trust me.

If you're going to do TOS-era Klingons with ridges go the STID route or something a little more like the TNG era. They're still recognizably Klingon and tie in fairly well with the rest of the franchise, plus you don't have to explain to a casual fan or a newbie that what you're looking at is a Klingon. The DSC Klingons are much worse and one of the most extreme examples of overkill in the new series.
