USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

To be perfectly honest, even in the best seasons of Star Trek (any series) there are always only a handfull of episodes that are genuinely "great". That's not a problem - that's the nature of art and entertainment.

If the rest is entertaining and watchable, one or two great episodes per season is really more than anyone can ask for.

Especially when they were still doing 24+ episodes a year. Expectations should be a little higher for more great eps with 13-15 a year. Orphan Black was too short with 10 eps per year, but I don't think there was one less-than-stellar episode among the 50.

It's the nature of episodic entertainment. Serials can be pretty consistent. I'm thinking about Game of Thrones and much of Babylon 5's seasons 2-3-4.

I honestly only expect one or two great episodes in any season. DISCO is no different.

Does DSC Season one fit: 1/3 great 1/3 average 1/3 bad?

I'd say 1/4 great. 1/2 good-average. 1/4 meh.

I don't recall an episode I'd consider "bad" on the level that I have considered other Trek clunkers "bad."

There were no Platos Stepchildren, Shades of Grey, Aquiel, Imaginary Friend, Move Along Home or VOY Warp 10 Lizzards episodes.

But there were also no Inner Light, COTEOF, Pale Moonlight episodes in the "outstanding" category either.

No. Every one I saw other than the time loop thing was less than competent. That episode had, at least, a little novelty and energy and the writer knew where they were going with it.

So why still watch? It's starting to sound like Discovery is a bad habit, like a cigarette you know you should quit but can't seem to stop smoking.

But even Game of Thrones usually has only one or two stand-out episodes per season (usually the 9th or 10th, where shit gets real), while the big majority of episodes usually is their "normal" - the usual quality one expects from GoT, and a few clunky ones where you have the feeling nothing happened (because they were purely exposition scenes for multiple storylines one after another, without any real development).

DIS had some pretty straight up bad episodes - "Choose Your Pain" is now probably my least favourite Trek episode all around. That it's a narrative dead end where both main characters are turn-coats, hiding their evil deeds behind a shiny Starfleet uniform, adds only insult to injury. I hate that episode with a passion, whereas I usually get quite a laugh out of something like "Threshold" or "Spock's Brain" and enjoy it for the schlock it is. "Choose Your Pain" is just...nasty.

Some really cool views of the Nimitz-class starship and Worker Bee HERE.

Woah! Thank you!

Woah. The Nimitz is way more interesting from the underside than from the top.

Absolutely! Damn, they some of their ship designs are really good...why aren't they showing them in the show???

IMO the worker bee would fit better with the other Trek series. It's a bit too....clean? And curvy. I hope they can make it a bit clunkier/edgier that it fits better with the brutalistic design of the rest of the show.

The Nimitz is amazing though! I didnt thought they could come up with a completely new unique design using the standard saucer-nacelle configuration. But here we are. In the group shots she looked like a very uninspired design. But having a better look from below, she's kind of amazing!

He couldn't complain about it if he didn't.

That's not the Nimitz, unless we were misinformed. The Nimitz is the class of the Europa. This one would be the Hoover class. Anyway, cool pics, though unfortunately the Hoover's deflector is very very similar to the Crossfield's.

But my point is that GoT's "normal" is pretty damn good, and consistent.

Looks like the Shenzhou's deflector to me, discovery's is flat with the hull, and more like the Sovereign's.

So the file names for the images say 'Malachowski'.
I wonder if either the artist got the name wrong, or CBS did. Or something changed with the class names between production and release.

I'm really starting to like the T'Plana-Hath in DSC. It's as close to a pre-TOS Miranda as we've seen thus far and with the exception of the shapes of the nacelles I like her. She's now my third-favorite Federation starship in the new series after the Enterprise and the Gagarin.

Did you mean the Malachowski? The T'plana is a flat ship.
