USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I would make a hastilly photoshopped diagram of Enterprise F going where no ship has gone before but I'd hate myself for it, and I'd probably get some kind of painful moderating thing done to me. I don't think I'd thrive in a moderated state.

Enterprise J is the ugliest Trek design I've ever seen.

I wish they had gone with Drexler's original proposal, the Congo class:

Sure it's just a saucer slapped on top of a rejected Voyager concept, but it looks a million times better.

I thought that was the J. I must have missed a staff meeting.

Nope. The J has no secondary hull, just pylons growing out of the back of the saucer, and a deflector dish at the front. It basically looks like a melted NX-01.

(The Congo and the J do have the same saucer and nacelles, because it looks like Drexler took them off the Congo and reused them for the final model. I recall he only had like 2 days to design the J.)

Oh, that's awful. Now I know to skip it! :techman:

I really hope Eaglemoss does a Congo at some point. I don't collect them, but it's such an odd, one-off design that I'd like to own it in physical form.

I understand that they will be making an Altair class ship, which is the design that forms the secondary hull of the Congo. Might grab one of those and make a saucer for it.

It looks like an evolution of the Ent-E to me

J only appeared as a briefly glimpsed wall art. I think the picture they used was fine enough for that purpose. It looked somewhat weird in a way which set it nicely apart from the earlier eras. The two-hundred-year-old ships fighting outside the window were silly though. They should have only used the Dauntless model for that, if there was no time or resources to make new models.

That does look better, the biggest problem is how the dish looks so out of focus and poor in detail compared to the rest of the ship.

I appreciate that its very large and all that but they could have done a better job, after all we have seen large ships done for other races that look much better.

Its like they couldnt be bothered.

Modularity in starship interiors is of course the most natural assumption in the world - after all, we know for a fact that those are modular.

No we don't. We have behind-the-scenes claims that they are. Not the same thing.

To allow it to become more self-aware?

That's what I figured, but that's not what they said in the show. They said self-aware, not more self-aware. That's the bit I have an issue with as far as plot in concerned in S2.

It's certainly the least pretty Enterprise, possibly Federation design. But then we have the Yeager class, and some of the study models at the Wolf 359 wreckage, etc.
