(US) Do you support a $15 minimum wage?

Do you support a $15 (or higher) minimum wage in the US?

I had to pay the price for my bad decisions. So, yeah, shit out of luck. My advice is not to rely on luck. Leaves you powerless. Own your life, empower yourself. People will help you, but you need to help yourself first.

You do realize references are "knowing someone"? Often times it is the difference between getting a job... and not. I sure hope you've never used a reference to help you land a job, since it would be "fraudulent."

Are you serious??

So what do y
The market, this invisible market which means in the real world someone with larger pockets decides how much of the little guy they can screw and get away with. When the 1% has made the 99% so dirt poor and destitute that there is no one there to buy their products, that is the day they, the 1%, will turn on each other like economic cannibals.

I would say it's invisible. It's a causal process built upon trade of value. It's a very natural process, which is why systems that oppose it invariable fail.

I'd rather see a 'guaranteed income' situation from the government in place of welfare programs than raise the minimum wage for that type of situation, and it would likely be cheaper to administer too, but OMG Socialism, so that won't get much traction.

Why should the state/taxpayer subside businesses paying shitty wages to their employees because the owner wants to keep a bigger slice of the pie?

No. By collecting welfare, mooching off family and friends, and selling drugs.

People are having to make that choice because jobs aren't paying what they should be paying, so CEO's can have $86 million dollar golden parachutes after being fired for fucking up the company.

If you don't see a problem with a select group of people making millions while paying so little to their employees that said employees have to go get Welfare to make ends meet... there's no real reason to continue the conversation.

Because the employer has more occupational value than the employee. If you start a business, you put work into creating it. That work has a value, and it's always more than the value of the individual employee.

Wow, all this time we've been looking for solutions to systemic and structural problems, and what we really should have done was come to you to learn that the answer is: empower yourself.

I hope you charge for this kind of wisdom, it's almost criminal to give it away for free.

You do realize capitalism is basically brand-new in historical terms, right? You shouldn't overrate its magical resilience--at this point it's looking pretty shaky. Almost all of the progress in living standards over the past century came about due to the confluence of technological advances, welfare state policies, and regulated capitalism. The Industrial Revolution was an inhumane, horrific mess until people fought for better conditions: more pay, shorter hours, safety laws, etc. That didn't happen by the magic of the market, it happened because people literally fought and died to make sure the government put a leash on rampant capitalist behavior.

I am appalled by your ignorance of history.

I personally don't want to be offered a job or position only because I know someone. If I can't do the job, I'm not taking it. It's fraudulent.

But this the tried and trusted method of the rich and powerful, especially their kids, its why inherited wealth stays inherited. Good thing your father is not named Donald Trump. Some people get to earn seven figure salaries through talent, and hard work and some use good old fashioned nepotism.

Greed is the desire to collect unearned value.

How can you not realize someone shouldn't be collecting millions as a parting gift, while employees stuggle to put food on the table and pay for things like medication.

If those are your true thoughts, I think you're a very poor human being. I hope nothing happens where you and your family have to subsist on minimum wage in the future.

I just can't imagine being the type of person who is okay with holding down hardworking people?

People defend the rampant capitalism at the top because one day they hope to be one of the rampant capitalists. Its why socialism or socialism with a hint of capitalism will never catch on in the USA cos the rich have successfully let the poor believe that 'one day, you will be like me!'
It's not called the American dream for nothing....
