I would say it's invisible. It's a causal process built upon trade of value. It's a very natural process, which is why systems that oppose it invariable fail.

I'd rather see a 'guaranteed income' situation from the government in place of welfare programs than raise the minimum wage for that type of situation, and it would likely be cheaper to administer too, but OMG Socialism, so that won't get much traction.

Why should the state/taxpayer subside businesses paying shitty wages to their employees because the owner wants to keep a bigger slice of the pie?

People are having to make that choice because jobs aren't paying what they should be paying, so CEO's can have $86 million dollar golden parachutes after being fired for fucking up the company.

If you don't see a problem with a select group of people making millions while paying so little to their employees that said employees have to go get Welfare to make ends meet... there's no real reason to continue the conversation.

You do realize capitalism is basically brand-new in historical terms, right? You shouldn't overrate its magical resilience--at this point it's looking pretty shaky. Almost all of the progress in living standards over the past century came about due to the confluence of technological advances, welfare state policies, and regulated capitalism. The Industrial Revolution was an inhumane, horrific mess until people fought for better conditions: more pay, shorter hours, safety laws, etc. That didn't happen by the magic of the market, it happened because people literally fought and died to make sure the government put a leash on rampant capitalist behavior.

But this the tried and trusted method of the rich and powerful, especially their kids, its why inherited wealth stays inherited. Good thing your father is not named Donald Trump. People defend the rampant capitalism at the top because one day they hope to be one of the rampant capitalists. Its why socialism or socialism with a hint of capitalism will never catch on in the USA cos the rich have successfully let the poor believe that 'one day, you will be like me!'
