Unseen TOS....

I love this. Would you mind if I tried a riff on this sometime?
Well allow me to finish my model first.

The bow is based on the front end of Matt Jefferies’ initial design for the shuttlecraft. The bottom is basically the shape of a boat.

Re: Class J cargo ship Harry Mudd commandeers then loses in trying to escape the Enterprise.

If I recall correctly Spock says the ship is a small cargo ship. On the bridge main viewscreen the ship appears as a distorted or lopsided oval. Do we take what we see onscreen as a starting point or start from scratch?
STID started with that and ended up with this:

Oh you'll be done with your model long before I get to having time to do something with it. It looks great.

I’m considering a somewhat dumbed down approach to Mudd’s cargo ship given we weren’t likely going to get a good look at it onscreen. So essentially it could be a few pieces of shaped wood put together and given a coat of paint.

Mind you with a better miniature we might have gotten a slightly better view of it so it wouldn’t hurt to add a few details for a better show.

And who knows? Maybe one day in many years to come someone might still see something of this show on a television with a bigger screen and better resolution. Hard to imagine a TV screen larger than 27 or 32 inches. Not likely, but you never know. Who knows what the future might bring?

There's also the Cyrano Jones mini-ship they built for DS9's T&T, hanging out in K-7's landing bay. Granted, not technically TOS, but kind-of. :D

^^ Uh, yeah…no. That doesn’t look anything like what Matt Jefferies or Wah Chang would have thought of. That looks more like something you would see on Babylon 5.

It looks like an over-greebled POS in any sci-fi universe. Regardless of what other franchise(s) it conjures up.

The Thasian appeared on the bridge as most likely a projection that humans could relate to, unless we assume ancient Thasians also looked human. Or maybe they were just accustomed to assuming that image when communicating with Charlie.

Origami hyperbolic paper might be an idea.

I was thinking some origami construct that would be filmed as a double exposure expanding and contracting--each image overlapped and blurred to suggest a conveyance. Black dowel rods against velvit. Maybe flash paper. The multiple camera shots overlaped--and then the combined wersion run back and forth.

Since @publiusr brought it up:
HASIAN: I have taken my form from centuries ago, so that I may communicate with you.

Very cool as always!:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Simple shapes that could easily have been made back in the day. Brilliant little design!:):):):)

I know you repurposed the Enterprise from “Space Seed”, but your Antares design and the photo composition are perfect. This image looks like it could have been lifted straight from “Charlie X” (in an alternate universe where the producers had the $$$ and time to build the model).

Smashing!

Thanks!

But it isn’t seamless. The screencap (which I got from Trekcore) of the original footage shows a bit of splotchy-ness on the Enterprise hull along with some low resolution blurriness. The blur is easy enough to replicate and I can add film grain and some visual noise, but the splotchy-ness (for lack of a better term) is hard to replicate. Replicating the exact lighting is also a challenge.

It would be better if I had my own 3D model of the Enterprise, which I will get around to at some point, because then I could render the models together with the same lighting and resolution. Putting the ships together side-by-side also helps convey the Antares’ size relative to the E.

I like how the painted windows came out. Maybe if I made them more reflective to look brighter and more like them being actually lighted like on the 11 footer.
