In regards to Admiral Cornwell, in the 'this season on Star Trek Discovery' trailer that was shown after the first episode, there is a quick shot of her kicking the crap out of L'Rell, and Michael is standing right behind her. So Cornwell does appear to at least make it into another episode.

Seems to be the fate of any female on Discovery that dares to take any sort of leadership role.
It would appear that Cornwell at least lasts long enough to put the smack down on L'Rell at some stage. In the season trailer we see Burnham pick up a klingon knife and angrily launch herself against two Klingons who look like they are aligned with Kol. So I am presuming that we do eventually get an attempted rescue mission. There's also a shot where Tyler and Burnham walk through a doorway with visible injuries and away mission vests on. Could be post mission, Burnham doesn't look happy. Might have lost Cornwell?
