Yes siree, today was an important day for us Trek fans. The...(sigh)...series finale of Lower Decks.
Don't get me wrong, it was phenomenal. And I saw it upon its release, early in the AM.
I'm glad of the progress the characters went through and the numerous changes that followed.
Carol willing to command Starbase 80 to monitor the new interdimensional rift and her husband Admiral Freeman is staying as well. Good for the both of them.
Ma'ah got command of Relga's fleet.
Rutherford removed his cybernetics.
Jack Ransom is now captain of the Cerritos.
And the adventures of the Cerritos continue...
I love Mariner's dialogue that is both heartwarming and showcases the program in general: "You know why Boimler's weird death-faking clone sent that cosmic wave at us? Because he knew we kick ass. And I'm not just talking about the five of us. The whole Cerritos crew is stacked with amazing officers. Yeah, there's a lot of ships in the fleet which are bigger, fancier, they have engineering sections that are attached to the main part of the ship. And honestly, those crews are way more professional. Hey, I should know, I've been kicked out of half of 'em. But this thing we do doesn't require perfection. We're explorers. We live for the unknown. You can't prepare for that. Nobody on the Cerritos is even close to perfect. We're a mishmash of people and various creatures that don't fit in anywhere else. But we're a family. That's why I love it here. We believe in the mission and in each other. My mom might be gone, but she handpicked this crew. Which is why I know we're gonna be okay. This isn't the end of the story, it's the beginning. We're gonna make her proud."
As much as I loved the episode, as this year started, I began missing it. I mean sure we've got the IDW comic series, the art book that's coming out next year, and we've got them on Blu-Ray or on Paramount + streaming...but I still miss it with all my fan heart. I owe Lower Decks much, it practically reinvigorated my love of all things Trek. I still pray and hope against hope somehow, someway a sequel spinoff will be made. A lot to ask for, but I try and remain optimistic.
I just feel like the Cerritos and her crew are worth for some more adventures.
To fill the pain of emptiness of waiting, I'm going to go for broke and fanfic my own continuation. I've got some ideas and I hope when I get to them and written, they'll be as good as any episode of the series.
Until then, keeping my fingers crossed and await news of the Cerritos and her crew return for our viewing pleasure.
Cerritos Strong!
