Unexpected deaths of Disco Crew Members... Who's next?

They're doing a decent job of keeping us from connecting to any of the crew. They could kill off Lorca, Saru, and Michael in a single episode and it probably wouldn't hurt the ratings any.

Agreed. I think the only remotely likeable character is Tilly and she's just insufferably perky. It's almost as if she were from a different series entirely.

Killing off Michelle Yeoh was the show telling us that we shouldn't be surprised to see anyone die. Discovery has already established that it's not going to be a traditional Trek show. It's gonna boldly go to the lame shock attempts they wouldn't. So nothing is really going to be unexpected. But I can tell you the character least likely to die, and it's the same character most deserving to be sent off—Michael Burnham. She's Wesley Crusher if Wesley's angsty teenager personality's only other mode was sanctimonious mutineer. A proactive Mary Sue in contrast to his reactive Gary Stu. But she's a black women who's the face of the show. Having her featured prominently in the show and in the marketing sends the message the creators and the suits and Hollywood wants, and if she's gone that means certain groups we don't like will win.

When trying to guess who dies next, you have to consider the impact it would have outside the show. It's unfortunate, but which characters live and die is heavily influenced by our contemporary real-world politics. You've already killed off two women of color. If you're not careful, you'll soon have a cast dominated by white men.

Re: Did the show have unexpected deaths thus far?

Am I the only one who was honestly surprised they killed off Landry? Sure, her name wasn't in the main credits, but Rekha Sharma did the whole press tour with the other actors IIRC and I don't remember anything in episode 3 or 4 that indicated she was to be killed so soon. What tipped off people who say they “knew” she was going to be dead?

I think it was seeing Rekha Sharma's name as a guest star, and not seeing Shazad Latif anywhere on the show, even though he's in the title credits, made me think they'd bump her off sooner than later. In fact I was fairly certain she was going to get killed in episode 4.

I actually think they'll kill Ash Tyler off around episode 13, if the rumour about his character comes true.

I was mostly surprised that she was killed so soon and so stupidly. It didn't really work for me. We hardly knew her and then she basically commits suicide by stupidity.

It's really funny trying to read a thread that has so many "ignored" participants posting in it.

:lol::crazy:

I expect Lorca to die in the season finale. Saru becomes captain and the crew continues Lorca's mission.

Lorca is a war Captain. It's been said that the war with the Klingons ends this season (thankfully), so either Lorca "ends" with the war or season 2 will see him struggle with trying to get in touch with his "explorer" side...if he even has one.

I liked Admiral Whatshername. Well. she's not dead yet, but she is looking like tomorrow's dinner.
Lorca, yeah, no way he can survive the season. But he'll be a fascinating character study. He may redeem himself. Michael may not survive the season either. The did pick an actress that's used to being on a show with uncertain futures for the actors.
Maybe season 2 is under captain Tilly a couple of decades later into the "lost era"

Is Tilly that annoying redhead? Yeah I'd like to see her go too. Annoying as shit.

Saru, then Tilly. In that order.

Maybe Saru can choke on his own vomit after a night of drinking Romulan ale.

Maybe Tilly can get her hair caught in a crevice in an airlock and then get accidentally "spaced"
