TUC: Collectors Edition Question

Let's think logically here. Kirk asks for "names". "And others" isn't a name. The script says "The Romulan Ambassador - Naclus...". The re-edit flashes to his face and trims it down to "Romulan Ambassador". "And others" would have been superfluous in the first place, and it's just not the kind of line you write in a dramatic screenplay. And, sorry, foreign dubs don't factor into it, since even closed captioning in the original languages is often inaccurate.

Now "scuse me while I kiss this guy". ;)

Sorry. You are wrong. I even have a copy of the script I won at an auction at a con.

They do not say "and others." You are mistaken.

As it has already been pointed out, the script does not prove anything, because they could have changed the line on that day of shooting.

BTW: Without the '... and others.' only three people would have been involved (besides Valeris) in this conspiracy.

And, while certainly not useful for a direct comparison in general (they replaced all the Klingon dialogue in ST-III with German), the German dub supports the '... and others.'-line in this case.

Doesn't change what was said onscreen or the fact that you are mistaken.

It only shows that you cannot understand your own native language.

The lips synch perfectly in the original TUC DVD. And that's in a film replete with plenty of minor errors (like the clock in the monitor).

I understand perfectly well. You are still wrong.

Watch the damn scene!
Nowhere does Cattrall form her mouth to pronounce the letter 'u'
It is clear that they say '... and others.'/'...und andere.'

So, they still say '... and others.'

The youtube-clip above is from the original DVD version.

They don't make a "d" or "er" sound. Unless, of course, Valeris and Spock developed, for all of one word, a dialect that would lead them to slur it into "an' utha's."

Also, the inflection and positioning is totally wrong for it to be part of a separate phrase, or even two separate words. Which doesn't belong? "Admiral... Cartwright..." "General... Chang..." "Romulan... Ambassador... Nanclus..." or "Romulan... Ambassador... and others..."

But seriously, folks, why are we arguing about this? If someone is wrong, and there's clearly no objective evidence that will cause him to reconsider his position, not even the actual shooting script, what's the point of arguing further. I'm sure we could play the scene for Leonard Nimoy, Kim Cattral, and Nick Meyer and they could all confirm that "Nanclus" was said it still wouldn't settle this.

I vote we all just begin humoring each other.

I did and I have. You are still mistaken.

Yes it is. And it proves my point rather well. :vulcan:

They're definately saying "and others."

JUST KIDDING!

I listened to it and it is "Nanclus." Plain and simple.

 :guffaw: :rommie:  :guffaw: :rommie:

I'm sorry, I'm not laughing at any one post, but the whole thing is just amusing. No one is budging, no one is presenting a new arguement, we are all sitting here going around in circles and using the exact same scene as ammo against the other side. The only way this is gonna end is if everybody gets tired of posting the same thing. Ahh, this is fun. :bolian:

Oh, an interesting little fact for you guys. Just as an experiment, I showed the audio clip to several more people who had never seen the movie. Now, as we have pointed out a few times before, the lack of synchronization between Spock and Valeris makes the line a little hard to understand. Well, I showed the clip to these friends one by one, and then asked half of them if they heard "and others" in there and the other half "Nanclus." Every single person said they heard whatever I had suggested to them. Now, this doesn't really help anyone, but I thought it was interesting.

And yes, I don't have a life.

I had better get the entire movie set for Christmas... I heard Nanclus on VHS... and I read Nanclus in the novelization...
