Well, as you said much earlier:

I can be wrong, but didn't the President of the UFP address him by name in the office-scene?

And here was one of the replies:

I'm pretty sure he says "And what is the position of the Romulan government, Ambassador Nanclus?" during the scene with the Klingon Ambassador in the president's office.
Ahem. Why repeat the cyclical arguments, when you can simply quote them? ;)

And none of these facts are in dispute, Mr. Pres... err... sorry ;)

I actually did forget that I posted in this thread before yesterday...

But the fact still stands: The office scene is the only on in which the Romulan Ambassador is named.

It is '... and other.'
And, THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!!!

There are, indeed, four lights, but Valeris and Spock are clearly saying "Nanclus." It's in the script, the novelization and in two different cuts of the film that way. You can certainly cling tenaciously to your beliefs and believe they are right, but the facts dictate otherwise.

Thank god I HATE this movie and never have to think of this issue for one further second of my life.

As you were.

Yeah, we've been going in circles on this one for a while now. And frankly, I'm getting bored, tired, and dizzy. Since neither side seems likely to give ground, howzabout we agree to disagree?
I don't think we're going to be able to get that much common ground.

I first saw TUC in the theatre for my tenth birthday. I have seen it dozens and dozens of times since then. I have seen the home video version and the DVD version. I have seen it on TV as well. I have seen it with subtitles, with captions, and without.

The line is: "The Romulan Ambassador Nanclus."

No further discussion is necessary. :)

While your efforts are appreciated, I think every single person in here has said that line at least once. Unfotunately, we are at a stale mate, but no one as of yet is willing to admit that there's no winning

Those same script-excerpts that still list the characters name as 'Saavik'?

No, IIRC, the early Saavik script (I have somewhere here) calls him "Naclus", which is no doubt a tongue-in-cheek reference to "Nacluv" ("Vulcan" spelled backwards), Leonard Nimoy's secret character in ST III when they were hiding the fact that the director had assumed the name of "Frank Force" to play a new character at the end of that movie.

The Premiere Library commercially-released script, which was cleaned up to agree with the closed captions does say, "... and others", but I don't own a set-used version of the final shooting script.

okay, I've just purchased and watched the DVD (Special Edition, Region 4).

The line (both spoken and subtitled) is now "Admiral Cartwright.....General Chang....Romulan Ambassador"

Gone from this edition is Bones' incredulous, "from StarFleet?" line after Cartwright; added are about 1 seconds of frame of all 3 conspirators.

However, my VCR version has Romulan Ambassador Nanclus in it.

Did they add footage since the original DVD release? I would swear that when Spock is doing his mind meld mojo and is naming the conspirators, that I had never seen the flashes of the conspirator's faces before. That seems very new to me. Or am I just crazy?

They added the flashbacks, but took away the Romulan Embassador Noncluss' name. He's just referred to as "Romulan Embassador" in this SE. The SE also has additional scenes that were'nt in the theatrical cut, most of which have been on the home video version for years.

The differences on the SE DVD are:

The flashbacks during the mind meld have been added.

DS9Sega said:
The re-edit flashes to his face and trims it down to "Romulan Ambassador".

David cgc said:
The word "Nanclus" is missing in the special edition, completely covered up by the flashback to his face.

But as also mentioned much earlier, the line does not feature at all in the DVD SE, or rather it cuts off at "Romulan Ambassador".

Its the TrekBBS version of "Cause and Effect". Time to decompress the main shuttlebay?

Indeed, Stew. It helps to read the thread before commenting on it, the argument is cyclical as it is. ;)

If, Sees-u, you want to form an opinion, buy the original DVD release (assuming you can find it) and watch the Vulcan mind rape scene. At one point, Spock says 'Romulan... Ambassador... Nanclus', although some in this thread will have you believe that he said 'and others'. Judge for yourself.

AMEN!!
Also the torpedo room scene where Scotty calls her a klingon bitch because she didn't shed any tears was in there too. Spock replied that it was hardly conclusive for him to say that since klingons have no tear ducts. They were all in the torp room because scotty had to manually take inventory of all torps to prove they didn't fire.

Oh, I agree that originally it was "Romulan...Ambassador...Nanclus" It just seems to have changed in subsequent reincarnations.

...SHALL WE PLAY A GAME?...

But the fake boobs thing SHOULD be ancient history now. Look at the poor qualilty of makeup fx in TWOK (jello mold looking blood and the story about how the guy powdered Nimoy's hand with green pancake when they asked for a bit of blood) and you'll realize there is no way they could have done a chestpiece that looks even vaguely realistic. The costume does have an odd 'bra' effect, but hey, the guy was 60!
