Trek's future according to Paramount's new owners...

I think some folks have ignored the fact that Section-31 pretty much ran afoul of the TMP condition.
It started out as a multi-episode series and got forced into a 90 minute movie.

We were lucky with The Motion Picture in that it had been a decade of only reruns beforehand and the fans were hungry for more new Trek adventures.
It was received at the time, mostly with applause from the fandom and did well enough to get Paramount to continue making movies.

Section-31 came at a time when a lot of fandom was Hellbent on wanting things to line up with their own particular headcanon.
(it doesn't excuse the clunkiness of the movie, but it does explain much of the fandom reaction)
If Hollywood was so cutthroat to kill a career after a single failure, we'd have never heard of folks like Alfred Hitchcock or Steven Spielberg beyond a footnote in a book about cinema history.
Yes most Trek fans including myself don't care for the Section 31 streaming film.

That said, realize that the film itself got good minutes viewed and brought people to Paramount Plus.

The film gets good enough ratings that they still occasionally show it on the Showtime subscrition movie channel.

Just saying.

Just a reminder, it's NOT Paramount anymore in anything but name.

Skydance is in charge now, all new people making the decisions.

Another reminder, the new CEO of the Paramount Name, is pals with Mr. Kurtzman.

We don't know anything for now, but it seems likely that Mr. Ellison will probably hang on to the guy that he's friends with and has managed to keep the Star Trek IP in the public eye for almost a decade now.
It's certainly possible that Kurtzman does stay on for another few years. But what if he doesn't? What would be the reason why, if S31 if overlooked?

Would it be just wanting a creative refresh all over? Or would the lack of movement on a pitched show like Legacy be a bigger factor?

Except that TMP was an alright movie in the first half. There was actually a lot of drama during the drydock scenes. It just tried to be cerebral in the sense like The Cage was, and dragged at certain points.

Whereas S31 was alright in the first third and just became incoherent as the film went on.

Oh good lord ...

Legacy isn't going to happen and Matalas isn't coming back, if that's not obvious to you by now ....

And despite Section-31 not being an overall fan favorite, it is still pulling in views when it shows up on a streaming platform.
As several have already pointed out, ONE unliked project doesn't dim the bright light of a decade of successful Trek productions.

Imagine kicking people out for one mistake. :wtf:

Artists move on all the time in their careers. As Noel Coward used to say, "always come out of another hole," meaning don't let your career stagnate by always doing the same thing.
